Job overview

  • I am currently responsible for teaching KS3 and KS4 English as well as KS3 RE. I have demonstrated my commitment to developing my knowledge of the GCSE curriculum by marking GCSE English exams for CCEA.
  • During the last eight years, I have been responsible for teaching the following subjects, in addition to English and RE: KS3 French, Drama, History, ICT and LLW.
  • I carefully plan and differentiate lessons to meet a wide range of abilities and circumstances including 'Newcomer' students and school refusers. I work closely with teaching assistants and use a variety of additional resources including IPads and Google Classroom to achieve this.
  • I was involved in an Intervention Programme with Year 8 and Year 10 pupils last year. I targeted low achieving pupils in Year 8 and under-achieving pupils in Year 10.
  • I have worked with our Newcomer pupils in extra English classes where I have used phonics and helped pupils to develop their writing skills including spelling, use of grammar, punctuation etc.
  • I am currently a Year 9 Form Teacher and regularly deal with pastoral and academic issues faced by my pupils. I work with the students, their parents and relevant staff to resolve these.
  • I am responsible for promoting positive behaviour and I achieve this through the use of appropriate rewards and sanctions in addition to restorative practice.
  • I track and monitor pupil progress, behaviour, achievement and attendance through SIMS.
  • I contribute to Personal Learning Plans by providing feedback to and liaising with SENCO.
  • I create and update classroom and corridor displays.
  • I supervise students during break and lunchtime, three times per week.
  • I assist the English department during our annual opening night for prospective students and parents. In addition, I attend meetings with parents and assist in awards ceremonies and information events.
  • I participate in In-Service training and staff development days.
  • I have been involved in extra-curricular activities including fundraising for Cancer charities and taking running clubs for KS3 pupils.
