Extra experiences

  • I was also in the army cadets for two years, here i not only developed plenty of new social skills, It also helped me with following orders and instructions, my teamwork and communication skills (including leadership qualities) as many times i had to lead a group in marches and other activities, and I also overcame the difficulties of speaking in front of groups of people and overcoming situations that may have previously made me anxious.

  • Last year i also did some part time work for a music events company called 'Nott a problem' who organise music events in Nottingham.

My responsibilities included assisting the events team by making bookings with venues and local artists, and handing out flyers in different locations. I also worked at some of the events in Nottingham where i assisted the team by giving out promotional items to attendees and ensuring that the events ran smoothly, being sure to raise any concerns directly to the event coordinators. This helped me build social skills along with organisational and problem solving skills.

  • Also in March 2023, I was selected with a few other young girls to be apart of a small group called 'Y-wise'

Here we selected a topic that we agreed to be important and then had to organise and host an event where we would speak on the subject we collectively decided.

We chose our topic and created flyers, handing them out and hanging them around Nottingham. People then brought tickets and came to see us all talk on a stage and have an open, public discussion.  On top of this we also did interviews where we went around the city centre and asked the public their opinions on the selected issue. These interviews were put into a video and presented at our event. This again helped with my public speaking, confidence and organisation skills.
