Summary

I am currently the Unit Manager at Whatley Quarry, the largest limestone quarry within the United Kingdom, which produces 5.5 million tonnes per annum.

Whatley Quarry is a 24/5 hour site which has 95 direct employees working alongside an additional 25 contractors, all of which play an integral part in achieving our goals set out. We deliver approximately 4 million tonnes of premium aggregate by rail each year supplying major UK based project such as HS2 as well as the Hinckley Point nuclear reactor.

My main responsibilities consist of:

- Implementing robust health and safety systems.

- Personnel management including carrying out personal reviews and goal setting.

- Planning and controlling site budgets whilst identifying cost reduction measures.

- Ensuring excellent customer service.

- Geotechnical/Mine planning.

- Production forecasting and planning.

- Reviewing KPI's and driving efficiencies.

I'm a highly motivated, ambitious and enthusiastic individual with 9 years of experience within the industry. Within this time I have gained various qualifications including a Bachelors of Science Degree in Mineral Management where I achieved a 2:1.

Accomplishments

  • No LTI's in the 9 years of my supervisory/management career
  • Youngest appointed manager of the UK's largest limestone Quarry
  • Achieved along with the site team, the most productive Quarry within the whole Heidelberg Materials business
  • Head of a cost saving project which investigated the reduction of moisture in aggregates to be used for processing - leading to savings of over £40,000 p/a
  • Involved in multiple capital project installations including a £2million fixed plant upgrade
  • Procurement of over £100k worth of recycled asphalt to be crushed and used within existing plant as a major cost saving process
  • Various community engagement activities ranging from donations to local schools and leisure clubs - as well as the organisation of a quarry open day which saw over 4000 people attend
  • Increase of sites EBITDA margin by 15% YTD via strong budgeting control
