Design Technician and Estimation Engineer

COOPS Switchgear Limited
Sheffield, England
2025.09 - Current
  • Switchgear Design: Lead design and cost estimation of LV switchgear systems, including fixed and withdrawable assemblies, ATS panels, MCCs, and TP&N distribution boards, ensuring compliance with IEC 61439, BS 7671, and BS EN IEC 60947.
  • CAD Drawing Portfolio: Sole designer of industrial electrical drawings using AutoCAD Electrical across distribution boards and LV switchgear assemblies with combined project value exceeding £500,000. Drawings include GA layouts, Device Schedules, SLDs, Meter and Termination Wiring and Surge Protection Wiring Diagrams.
  • Support protection and control scheme design covering overcurrent, earth fault, and transfer switching logic for LV power distribution.
  • Specify and integrate energy meters, power monitoring devices, and surge protection equipment within LV switchgear designs.

Machine Operator

McCulloch Rail
Doncaster, South Yorkshire
2023.05 - Current
  • In this role, I operate specialised rail machinery for track installation, removal, and maintenance.
  • Progressed from assistant to afully qualified operator within 6 months demonstrated adaptability and fast learning.
  • Operated specialized rail equipment across 120+ projects with 95%+ success, gained technical expertise and project execution.
  • Contributed technically to a £1.7M project in France, supporting Euro Tunnel Infrastructure and saving 1M in daily costs — developed cost-awareness and project impact insight.
  • Maintained strict compliance with PTS and industry regulations reinforced safety culture and regulatory adherence.

Switchgear Wiring Technician

Electrical Switchgear Services Ltd
Rotherham, England
2025.05 - 2025.09
  • ATS Panel Build: Physically built and wired 35+ Automatic Transfer Switch panels end-to-end — from cable containment, routing, and termination through to functional logic testing; all units passed factory acceptance testing (FAT) with zero failures.
  • Switchgear Assembly: Contributed to assembly and wiring of 15+ LV switchgear panels and 3 panel boards, including busbar system installation, MCCB/ACB mounting, CT/VT wiring, meter and relay integration, and component labelling.
  • Drawing Interpretation: Read and worked directly from IEC-standard control schematics, GA drawings, and wiring diagrams; accurately translated design intent into physical wiring across varied panel configurations.
  • Testing & QA: Performed insulation resistance, continuity, and functional logic tests in accordance with BS 7671 and BS EN IEC 60947; identified and resolved wiring discrepancies prior to FAT, reducing rework and improving throughput.

Academic & Independent Engineering Projects

Smart Hybrid Automatic Transfer Switch BEng Final-Year Dissertation | Sheffield Hallam University | 2024–2026

• Designed and simulated a three-phase Smart Hybrid ATS integrating grid, diesel generator and battery ESS sources; modelled in LTspice (230 V RMS / 325 V peak, 50 Hz, 120° phase separation).

• Developed source-priority switching logic and investigated hybrid SSR/contactor transfer timing, voltage dip behaviour and transient suppression.

• Built a predictive maintenance concept using switching, electrical and thermal health indicators, with ML fault classification implemented in Python (scikit-learn) on a dataset of approximately 3,500 LTspice-generated samples.

• Standards considered: IEC 60947-6-1, IEC 61439, BS 7671, IEC 62040-3. Tools: LTspice, MATLAB/Simulink, Python, AutoCAD Electrical.

LV Panel Manufacturing Execution System Independent Development Project | 2025–Present

  • Designed and developed a bespoke MES for LV switchgear panel production workflows.
  • Built functionality for BOM management, drawing control, build-stage tracking, QA records, audit logging and production traceability.
  • Structured the system around real manufacturing stages from engineering release and component kitting through to build, testing, QA and dispatch.
  • Developed using React, Fastify and PostgreSQL, with focus on multi-user access, traceability and production visibility.
  • Applied LV switchgear manufacturing knowledge to bridge electrical engineering, quality control and software development.
