Smart Hybrid Automatic Transfer Switch BEng Final-Year Dissertation | Sheffield Hallam University | 2024–2026
• Designed and simulated a three-phase Smart Hybrid ATS integrating grid, diesel generator and battery ESS sources; modelled in LTspice (230 V RMS / 325 V peak, 50 Hz, 120° phase separation).
• Developed source-priority switching logic and investigated hybrid SSR/contactor transfer timing, voltage dip behaviour and transient suppression.
• Built a predictive maintenance concept using switching, electrical and thermal health indicators, with ML fault classification implemented in Python (scikit-learn) on a dataset of approximately 3,500 LTspice-generated samples.
• Standards considered: IEC 60947-6-1, IEC 61439, BS 7671, IEC 62040-3. Tools: LTspice, MATLAB/Simulink, Python, AutoCAD Electrical.
