Summary

I am currently a delivery driver looking to expand on my previous experience, developed as part of GP Service Team with a background in animal welfare and farm work, previously ensuring optimal conditions for poultry across the UK with a labour intensive background through my previous work with Aviagen. I believe I demonstrate an ability to work effectively both independently and within a team under pressure.

GP Service Team Worker

Aviagen
09.2024 - 08.2025

In a nutshell, I was a welfare worker tasked with ensuring safe and appropriate conditions for chickens on farms across the UK, primarily in Scotland.

There were two different types of routines we encountered through the week: tests and major tasks. The type of routine we had each week was determined by the age of the chickens within the houses on the farms.

For instance, chick placement typically occurred within the first few weeks of a chick's life; this is when they are brought to farms and distributed in separate pens within the farm's houses.

Prior to chick placement, however, a cleanout test occurred after a farm was entirely cleared out and cleaned of prior chickens, where water samples and swab samples were taken within farms to test for any trace of virus, disease, or DNA traces of prior chicken inhabitants.

When chicks reached the five-week point of their lives, the first major task would occur, known as grading, where the chicks are weighed and moved between pens based on their weight. The average weight was calculated first by pre-weighing roughly 10% of chicks from each pen and then sorting them into either a light, medium, heavy 'three-way grade', or a light, heavy 'two-way grade'.

At the eleven-week point of a chicken's life, the next major task occurred, where female chickens were vaccinated to protect them from disease, so they may lay healthy eggs when they reach the age of producing them.

Another vaccination occurred at the eighteen-week point, where females received a vaccine top-up, as well as an additional vaccine essentially made up of four different vaccines. This 4-in-1 vaccine is also given to males at this point.

Through each major task, dust samples are taken, as well as ground swabbing within the chicken houses, to ensure there is nothing detrimental to the chickens on these farms.

Tests then began to occur from around 21 weeks onward, where blood samples, dust samples, ground swabs, water samples, saliva samples, and more were taken to ensure the continued welfare of chickens on farms.

Customer Assistant

Morrison's Daily (McColl's)
08.2022 - 09.2024

Worked as team member, performing cashier duties, product assistance and cleaning.

Processed cash and card payments during busy shopping periods, limiting customer wait times.

Provided friendly, attentive service by promptly responding to customer enquiries and processing order requests.

Maintained a clean and organised work area, contributing to a pleasant shopping environment and promoting safety standards.

Regularly replenished shelves, till areas and displays with latest merchandise and signage.

Stocked and rotated inventory regularly.

Consistently collaborated within a team environment and independently when necessary.

Ensured compliance with health and safety regulations, protecting customers and staff from potential hazards.

Typical tasks throughout the day, aside from general upkeep and ensuring the safety of the store, included sweeping and mopping the floors, maintaining stock upkeep, completing reductions and placing them in their own sections for customers, cleaning worktops daily, and maintaining packages for customers from delivery services and for customers to be sent away with their respective delivery service drivers.

Later during my time at McColl's/Morrison's Daily, I began to gain responsibilities and eventually became a key holder for the store, where till management, deliveries, paperwork, and other necessities throughout the day were handled by myself.

Shifts consisted mainly of two people, with the rare occasion of three people being on shifts, or sometimes one.

Chilled Department Worker

Asda
11.2021 - 04.2022

Each shift consisted of the same routine within a team of members capable of working together, and independently where required.

The first task of the shift was to markdown all reduced products within the fruit/veg, chilled, and bakery departments in that order, followed by a 'date code', which involved a thorough search of items within the chilled section for myself, while two other members date coded the fruit/veg and bakery sections respectively. This was a meticulous and important task, as it required the searching of all dates and all products for same-day dates missed from the previous day, and following-day dates to get at the end of the day. If one member had completed their date coding earlier than the others, help would sometimes be offered depending on how on track said members were for the day.

At around 5:50 pm, date coding would be halted to proceed to reduced sections where each of us would begin to unload reduced bays and bring all products into a backup chiller to further reduce products for the day. This was done within the backup chiller so as to avoid customers waiting for the exact moment we stuck reduced labels onto items, only to snatch said items within an instant. If there were a high volume of items within the reduced bays for the day, this would be done a little earlier so as to allow myself and whichever colleagues I had with me for the day enough time to complete reductions, to drop products off to their respective reduced bays for 6pm.

Following the final reductions for the day, we would then proceed to complete our date coding, where needed, and then return to the backup chiller to reduce what we have collected for the following day. These products dated for the next day would then be kept in a section of the main chiller for the end of the day.

After the completion of date coding and the storage of collected products, we would then begin waste management duties by collecting waste for the day and any products found or collected throughout the day and placed in waste, to input them into the system for stock management.

Following the completion of waste removal, our final task was to begin first reductions for previously stored products for the following day, and their deposit into their respective reduced bays for the day ahead.

General Farm Worker

Aviagen
07.2021 - 08.2021

At my first job as a general farm worker for a contracted Aviagen farm, I was tasked with cleaning out chicken houses to prepare the farm to be ready for a continued cycle of chicken rearing.

Starting from the crack of dawn, for around eight hours each weekday, we began emptying out the sheds by carrying chickens around the ages of 19 to 20 weeks old to cages to be loaded into a lorry, where they would then be taken to a laying farm to produce eggs, fertilised and unfertilised.

We were to then empty, clean, disinfect, power wash, and inspect the houses for anything missed, and then repeat this process until the chicken houses were spotless.

This job was only short in length of employment, as the month following was when I decided to take up mathematics at university in Edinburgh, before ultimately choosing that it wasn't the right course for me after my first year.
