Summary

Currently I am a full time undergraduate student, studying chemical engineering at the University of Strathclyde, and on track to achieve a first class honours. I have extensive experience in the construction industry, where I have learned many universal skills that will will be beneficial later in my career. However I am looking to gain experience within the chemical engineering industry, in order to further my knowledge and understanding of the field.

Work history

Electricians Apprentice

Stirling Council
Stirling
03.2018 - 04.2018

Briefly worked with an electrician during work experience in high school.

Assisted said electrician in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems and equipment. Also conducted routine checks and maintenance on electrical systems.

Carpenters Apprentice

David Beveridge & Sons joiners and builders
, Clackmannanshire
05.2022 - 09.2022

Spent an entire summer working alongside a team of carpenters specialising in residential extensions and conversions. Gained hands on experience in the construction and installation of frameworks and fittings, as well as assisting in the measurement, preparation and assembly of materials. I worked closely with these carpenters to ensure quality and precision in all aspects of the building process, while maintaining adherence to safety and building regulations.

Groundworker

Relevant Modules Studied

Reactors

Gained in-depth knowledge of various reactor types, their applications, and design considerations. Learned to calculate key parameters such as space time, outlet composition, and required reactor volume for different specified reactions. Grade achieved; 89%

Applied Mathematics and Problem Solving

Utilized Python and MATLAB to model real-world engineering scenarios, such as predicting reactant concentration changes within a reactor. Applied advanced mathematical techniques, including differential equations and eigenvectors, to develop accurate simulations. Grade achieved; 67%

Chemical Process Design and Simulation

Gained detailed knowledge of end-to-end chemical process design and used Aspen Plus to simulate and optimize these processes. Grade achieved; ~80%

Vapour-Liquid Separation

Studied various separation processes, including distillation, absorption, and evaporation. Learned how to select the appropriate process for specific applications and designing each process to achieve any given required separation. Grade achieved: N/A

Process Safety Fundamentals

Learned about key regulatory frameworks, including COMAH, COSHH, and REACH. Additionally, learned to perform safety evaluation techniques such as HAZOP to identify and mitigate potential hazards in chemical processes. Grade achieved; 76%
