To fulfill the requirements of my course, I needed to complete a total of 350 hours of work experience. This experience allowed me to work on a project from start to finish, where I joined Morgan Sindall to help complete a second building for my sixth form.
In my first 15 hours of work, I shadowed the site manager and attended meetings, gaining valuable experience for the future, I completed tasks such as checking for defects, inspecting windows, marking lines for rooms, and familiarising myself with site rules.
As I accumulated 50 hours of work, I grew more familiar and confident in my responsibilities. I conducted various inspections and defect checks, recording any issues that needed resolution. Additionally, I prepared progress reports and ensured that all workers were wearing the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
After completing 100 hours of work, I was able to take on tasks independently. This experience challenged me to overcome obstacles and become more self-sufficient. During my time as a systems technician, I have participated in a variety of tasks that involve both manual and cognitive skills. These tasks include pulling cables through underground ducts, installing rail grease reservoirs, using a Radiodetection C.A.T. scanner to locate underground cables and pipes, and reading technical drawings to understand the features in my surroundings.
