  • This contract was to oversee and advise on several projects which included the planning and co ordination of trades, engineers and liaison with local building control on the construction of large commercial units as well as a total refurbishment of a large domestic property with complicated structural works , which involved the supervision and co ordination of trades and materials
  • Other works included the supervision of ancillary works of other outbuildings ensuring their structural integrity as well as compliance with all building regs and health and safety requirements.

  • The work involves building control and warranty inspections
  • An initial site risk assessment is also completed prior to a new site commencing

  • The work of an NHBC Inspectors involved the inspection of new build properties from start to finish
  • This involves ‘key stage' inspections
  • This means I have to see the property at the following stages, foundation, drainage below ground & test, superstructure, pre plaster and pre handover
  • If at these stages any contraventions of Building Regulations or NHBC standards are breached a site visit report is issued with ‘reportable items
  • This means that the builder has to rectify the reportable items and is re inspected
  • The job entails detailed knowledge of the approved documents and the NHBC Standards
  • I work from home but am in a team of 8 inspectors and report to my Inspection Manager
  • I travel round from site to site and as well as the key stage inspections I carry out ‘frequency' inspections on builders and the frequency is set according to the ‘risk' rating of the builder
  • I liaise with site manager, engineers, surveyors, architects and trades on site on a daily basis
  • I use a laptop on a ‘fusion' system to enter data for each plot
  • I also produce 4 monthly consultative inspection reports
  • The aim is to raise the standards for the home owner and the builder
  • I am responsible for my own time management and am very efficient in this respect
  • I am an effective communicator, and although a ‘lone worker' I am part of a bigger corporate employer
  • I am on regular training courses in order to keep abreast of the latest changes in building regulations and NHBC Standards

  • Employed by the Metropolitan Police service as a uniformed police constable, I successfully completed my 2 year probationary period and exams in Feb 1996
  • My duties were quite varied and included the reporting and investigation of crime, arresting and processing suspects involved in criminal activities, crime prevention, obtaining search and arrest warrants, reporting accidents, giving first aid dealing with drunken drivers attending scenes of domestic violence and generally helping members of the public both young and old
  • I often had to attend court in order to give evidence as a police witness in all types of cases
  • Each day is an 8 hour shift, this can be done in a police vehicle on foot or working at the station
  • A proportion of time is taken up preparing case papers for court, updating the crime reporting intelligence system and working on up to 5 different types of computer in order to gather and input information
  • I am public order trained, which involves extra training for large public events, such as football, protest, or anywhere a large crowd may gather
  • I was also based as a crime squad officer, and became a response and eventually an advanced and pursuit trained driver, of which only 3% of people pass the stringent course.

Hobbies & Interests, I am a keen musician and have written many songs and recorded three albums, many years ago as a part time hobby. My last album was called ‘Biding My Time' and was released to help raise money for Cancer Research UK and the Macmillan Nurses Trust.I like to ride horses, play tennis, snooker, and very keen on cricket and recently went to Australia to watch the 2010/2011 Ashes series.( only for 3 weeks)I really enjoy cooking and experimenting with food. Being a tradesman I am always doing some work around the house.My Main hobby is course fishing, I travel all over the country angling for Carp and Catfish although I enjoy any fishing. Over the years I have built up a very large number of catches even when I am on holiday, I find it a challenge as well as very relaxing and appreciate the tranquil surroundings of water and the countryside.
