
I am a criminal lawyer who has specialised in Legal aid since 1997.
I have a good understanding of the functions of the LAA, the requirements of a contact with the legal aid agency and criminal billing.
I regularly make applications for legal aid and and have full knowledge of the criteria for the grant of legal aid .
I have been a consultant Peer Reviewer for the Legal Aid Agency since 2008 and am tasked on a regular basis with reviewing the files of other providers and reporting on my findings , including written reasons.
I am the honorary Secretary of the Criminal Law Solicitors Association which I have held for 3 years. I have been on committee for over 10 years. I attend regular meetings of the association and have been responsible on occasions for chairing meetings.
I have organised and chaired large scale meetings with Legal Aid Providers to discuss difficulties the profession faces and how they can be overcome.
I chair monthly meetings of my staff to discuss operational matters and any updates in the law.
I set up MBC Solicitors Ltd on 1.12.2006 . The company is a Criminal Law Practice with 3 offices within the Greater Manchester area.
The practice employs 13 staff including 6 duty solicitors and we have Legal Aid Contracts in Salford, Manchester and Bury.
I am a duty solicitor and attend both the Magistrates Court and Police Station on a regular basis .I am a supervisor under the Criminal Contract.
I head our Crown Court Department and specialise in the preparation of complex and serious trials in the Crown Court.
I hold a Higher Rights Certificate for advocacy in the Crown Court.
I am the managing director of the practice and COLP of the practice . I am responsible for LAA and Lexcel Audits .
