
For the last three years I have worked as a Community Nurse within the Health Visiting Team. Prior to this I worked within acute settings as a Children's Nurse.
My work experiences have all provided a range of experiences, knowledge and skills which shape the practitioner I am today.
I have gained valuable experience working with a diverse range of families. This has involved supporting families through the completion of holistic assessments to identify areas of targeted interventions and health promotion. I recognise the importance of delivering health promotion advice to help ensure every child has the best possible start in life.
I have strong communication skills and can adapt communication to the individual.
I am keen to further develop my experience, knowledge and skills, and progress in my career through undertaking the Specialist Community Public Health Nursing course and qualifying as a health visitor.
Work covered all wards and departments within the hospital, both children and adult wards.
*Duties included all aspects of patient care; accurate fluid chart monitoring.

I would have been working on the new CAMHS unit (Sowenna) which was being built in Bodmin but not open at that time of my employment.
In the meantime I received training on relevant subjects to the unit such as; attachment and behaviour theories, eating disorders, medication to name just a few. Having practical experience through being placed on the adult inpatient Mental Health Wards and learning the routine of the ward and all about the Mental Health Act.
As a senior band 5 my responsibilities and duties include: *Supporting and teaching junior members of staff and students. *Taking charge of the ward (dealing with staffing, discharges, admissions and bed moves).
*Working as part of the multidisciplinary team for example physio, dietitian, pharmacist, leading ward rounds.
*Administering medications according to trust policy including oral, intravenous, subcutaneous.
*Administering chemotherapy and bone marrow.
*Using central lines and cannulas using the ANTT approach. *Working with and supporting clients and their families/carers providing support, and teaching.
*Working alongside teams such as palliative care, teenage cancer trust.
*Effective written and communication skills through note writing, ward round, referrals to other agencies and communicating via the telephone.

Working as Children's Nurse on a mixed Children and Adult Haematology Bone Marrow Transplant ward.
Looking after Patients undergoing and administering high doses of chemotherapy and radiotherapy and administering bone marrow transplants.
Care included:
*Identification of the deteriorating patient.
*Observations.
*Administering medications and blood products including Chemotherapy, Nutritional support, including Total Parental Nutrition (TPN), blood, platlets, fluids.
*Nasal Gastric and Gastrostomy feeds. (and all written in previous job description).
First job post qualifying as a Nurse, working on a Children's ward consisting of two specialities -burns and plastics and neurology.
