I have been working at Osborne School on a Supported Internship through Eastleigh College. I have been helping staff with the personal care of the students. I support the class teacher to help children and encourage them to learn. Osborne School is a school for pupils with learning disabilities aged 11-19. I have been using the hoist to help move children into their different chairs, and using different Mobility Equipment such as Wheelchairs to support the children moving around the school. I have been learning about eye gaze communication devices, learning how to use wheelchair belts, lap belts, and support straps to make sure the children are safe. I enjoy helping a girl who needs the support of a wheelchair in cooking. I also am responsible for taking photos with the class iPad for the class teacher . I have been helping with feeding non verbal children at lunch and he has a communication tablet that he uses to tell you what he wants to eat and I enjoyed it because it was my 1st time to feed him. i am supporting a member of staff with tube feed with unable children in the wheelchair. I have been joining in staff meetings, and using sign language to communicate to members of staff who are deaf and childrens . answering the classroom phone to pass a message to members of staff and non verbal staff. displaying the lesson on the timetable for the next day . supporting a child at their workstation. go and take some children to their mini bus every day.
