My interest in primary care developed whilst on placement with Abbey Road Surgery in my final year of the course. I was able to work closely with all the different professionals within the practice to gain a valuable insight into the inner workings of a primary care setting. I spent time shadowing and assisting nurses with various appointments allowing me to develop my knowledge of chronic conditions and the vaccine schedule among other areas. I was then able to carry out my own clinics within my scope as a student which improved my ability to work autonomously with confidence and knowledge of when to reach out to other professionals for guidance or assistance. My passion for this area of practice grew due to the nature of the work feeling fulfilling to me. I enjoyed being able to build strong relationships with patients and follow their care long term. Also, the variety of the job day-to-day allowed me to constantly develop my knowledge and skills accordingly which I enjoy to do.
