Honest Publishing is an independent publisher based in Twickenham. I began working for Honest in April 2012, running their Twitter accounts with a view to gaining more followers and promoting current publications and forthcoming events.
I regularly contributed SEO articles and works of fiction, which were published on their website. In May 2012 I began proofreading The Vorrh, alongside a team of other readers, and was quickly promoted to co-editor by the co-director of the publishing house. The Vorrh is a fantasy novel by Professor Brian Catling, which involves many complex chunks of prose and text; an eagle eye and high levels of concentration were required to enable the editing process to work successfully.I marketed The Vorrh via social media, gaining new followers for the Twitter account, chasing reviews, and researching target markets.
I helped with the organisation of The Vorrh's launch at Pitt Rivers Museum, and was tasked with details such as finding a compere to stand alongside Alan Moore at the event. I am proud to have been instrumental in such a huge task, and to have generated sales for the book.
I worked in a busy department, running the technical aspects of visual fields tests, as well as other screening technology. I dealt with the public daily, and my role also included various administrative tasks and assisting with the training of new technicians.
I left this role to concentrate on furthering my career as a freelance writer.
My role included booking detainees into custody, supervising Custody Assistants, shift planning, organising training and annual leave, and liaising with various outside agencies regarding the welfare and detention of detainees. The role was supervisory, involving a vast amount of computer-based administrative tasks.
