  • I make mirrors and frames from reclaimed wood.

  • I started as an Assistant Gardener and worked along side Tom in hs business for several years
  • We carried out garden maintenance, drystone walling, fencing, edging, laying lawns hedge trimming and weeding as well as many other jobs
  • I then started my own business and ran that successfully for several years
  • I still on occasion do private client jobs
  • Jobs have included building veg beds, planting, tending to veg beds, bed prep, landscaping, weeding, sorting, tidying, building, repairs.
  • I am an Organic gardener and I am always try to find ways to work with nature and its own intelligence.
  • I have managed 6 acres of land

Garden Manager

  • For 16 months I worked as a Garden Manager for the Findhorn Foundation
  • I managed 6 acres of land which I have partly rewilded
  • I held groups in the garden and facilitated work sessions for up to 20 people
  • I did educational tours in the garden about the benefits of biodiversity and organic gardening and nature connection
  • I held volunteers in the garden as well as guests
  • I managed the day to day planning of the work and tasks which included regular garden maintenance
  • We had a good composting system as well as leaf mould and made our own comfrey
  • We also grew some veg for the kitchen from seed and had a herb garden.
  • We had a polytunnel and in it grew some tomatoes grapes and greens
  • We used permaculture principles and had some leafy greens near the back door of the kitchen for ease of access
  • We experimented with making our own seedling compost
  • I worked very closely with this land and became very passionate about rewilding and giving back to nature as much as possible The insect and animal and wild flower biodiversity in the garden made my soul sing
  • I got to know the different habitats for different creatures and supported them to thrive
  • In our other garden we had a market garden which I would regularly help out in
  • This was a successful organic veg growing garden
  • I also took care of of over 100 house plants and propagated plants in our greenhouse and in our propagator
  • I have also used a scythe on some of the grass areas which I really enjoyed as it is far better for the environment and I liked going back to old ways
  • I was responsible for all health and safety and training for volunteers and guests and also the maintenance of the various tools
  • I have learnt a lot and have still much to learn which is very exciting
  • I am passionate about food security and taking care of the environment
  • I really enjoyed helping people to change their thinking and approach to how they work with their own land rather than DO the land I advocated connecting with it and getting to know it and appreciating it and working in partnership with its intelligence
  • I am very passionate about Organic veg and herb growing

  • During this time I saw service users becoming increasingly included within their communities and develop a sense of purpose, greater choice and freedom
  • Daily tasks for me included medicines management, financial management, activity planning, as well as providing emotional, social and spiritual support
  • Observational and assessment skills were essential in order to detect subtle changes in residents' physical and mental health; particularly when communication was limited.

  • My role was also to encourage and enable residents both to participate in existing activities and to develop their own sense of community by establishing their own range of activities, both within and outwith the care context
  • Residents were also supported to seek appropriate employment/volunteer opportunities, necessitating sensitive partnership-working between employers, the care agency and previously disenfranchised individuals
  • This post required a delicate balance of compassion, pragmatism and practicality.
