I began my nursing career in 2014, starting as a Senior Nurse in the Cardiothoracic Ward/HDU in Saudi Arabia, where I worked for over three years. In 2018, I relocated to London to join King's College Hospital, initially working in the Diabetes and Endocrine Unit, where I gained valuable experience in a medical setting.
To broaden my knowledge, I applied for the Trauma Rotation, gaining experience in A&E, the Cardiac High Dependency Unit, and the Cardiac Recovery Unit. During the pandemic, I was redeployed to the Intensive Therapy Unit for a few months, which enhanced my adaptability in acute care settings. I then worked permanently in the Cardiac HDU and Recovery Unit for two years, strengthening both my clinical and leadership skills. In this role, I closely collaborated with Junior Sisters to manage admissions, discharges, and transfers, ensuring patient safety and supporting my colleagues.
In 2023, I advanced to a Band 6 Cardiac Rehabilitation Nurse, where I began managing my own caseload of cardiac patients. This year, I stepped up to a Band 7 Diabetic Foot Nurse Specialist, enhancing my skills in assessing and managing patients with complex diabetic foot issues, including vascular, orthopaedic, and neuropathic concerns. This role has strengthened my leadership abilities, as I conduct audits, monitor incident reports, patient feedback, and complaints, ensuring continuous improvement in the clinic.
Understanding the importance of effective leadership, I actively pursued opportunities for constant professional growth by liaising with my managers and practice development nurses. I ensured to get feedback and advice about continuous professional development. I have always made sure to be updated with training and courses.I am an ILS provider and maintain up-to-date Good Clinical Practice training. I successfully completed the Cardiac Critical Care Course in 2022, and the Introduction to Critical Care course in 2023. This year, I attended Advanced Communication Skills Training, which significantly improved my communication abilities in the workplace. Additionally, I am currently enrolled in the Advanced Clinical Assessment, Critical Thinking, and Diagnostic Reasoning Across the Lifespan course at City University of London, which is expected to be completed by January 2025. I have also completed the Practice Supervisor Training and serve as a resource and training provider for our nursing team, including Band 6, Band 5, and HCAs in the Diabetic Foot Clinic. I am eager to continue learning and would welcome the opportunity to participate in any courses required for this position. I believe that ongoing education plays a crucial role in maintaining professional competence, as it provides staff with both purpose and motivation in their work.
I also have experience leading service improvements in the Diabetic Foot Clinic. I implemented a more efficient system for organising and allocating appointment times, which significantly reduced patient waiting times. Additionally, I introduced a structured nurse allocation system that helped streamline the nursing team's workload.
Furthermore, I developed a vital signs and observations protocol specifically tailored to the needs of diabetic foot patients in our unit. I am also currently leading the implementation of a new SOS/Emergency pathway protocol for our team.
I am skilled at managing my time, which has enabled me to consistently provide high standards of care to my patients. My organisational skills allow me to prioritise the needs of patients, staff, and the unit as a whole. I am adept at planning ahead, ensuring that tasks and responsibilities are prioritised based on their importance and urgency. Throughout my career, I have worked closely with members of the multidisciplinary team, including consultants, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, pharmacists, nurse practitioners/specialists, and other allied health professionals. I understand the unique roles of each team member and the value of leveraging their expertise to provide comprehensive, high-quality care. This experience underscores my ability to work effectively as part of a team.
