Summary

I am a highly motivated and accomplished individual with a strong academic background and a passion for Civil and Structural Engineering. With a first honours degree in Civil and Infrastructural engineering, I have acquired a comprehensive understanding of geotechnical, hydrological, structural, and other skills required by a civil engineer. Throughout my academic journey at Kingston University, I have demonstrated a diligent and meticulous approach to tasks and projects, allowing me to excel in individual and team-based settings. I am a Confident communicator, with an eagerness to expand on my experience, a keen eye for detail and a quick learning ability, I am certain in my ability to contribute to the success of the company and any tasks assigned to me. I am now seeking an opportunity to apply my theoretical knowledge and practical skills in a graduate position or internship role in structural engineering, Civil engineering, and construction, where I can make a meaningful impact and continue my professional development. Thank you for considering my application. References are available upon request .

Work history

Research Intern

Kingston University
06.2022 - 06.2023
  • During the internship I voluntarily took the most crucial role taking part in every aspect of the internship from health and safety, COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health), technical drawings (AutoCAD), to the manual construction two the final concrete frames
  • The internship primarily focused on evaluating the effectiveness of FRP (Fiber Reinforced Polymer) reinforcement in mitigating seismic events on RC (Reinforced Concrete) frames
  • This involved studying the impact of earthquakes on structures, as well as analyzing the deformation and stress experienced by structural elements during such events
  • The experiment specifically examined the effects of externally bonded FRPs (EBFRP) as a type of reinforcement
  • I played a pivotal role in the experimental study that specifically investigated the effects of the externally bonded FRP's as a form of reinforcement
  • This experience helped greatly to develop my team management/collaboration, and my structural analysis and design skills
  • Carried out experiments and research following protocols laid out by primary researchers.
  • Conducted statistical analyses of data sets to identify patterns.
  • Set up, calibrated and maintained field or laboratory equipment as per study requirements.
  • Wrote reports to summarise data and implications of results.
  • Prepared graphs and spreadsheets to present findings.

Secondary School tutor

CEFLynx
09.2020 - 01.2022
  • Working with secondary and primary school students on a personal level through online Zoom calls to improve their understanding of Math, English and Science
  • Working in a group of 3-4 tutors, this job requires clear communication between all members of the team
  • The opportunity developed my planning skills, multi-tasking, and interpersonal relation-building skills
  • I organised a working system focused on the development of each student in the subjects most challenging for them
  • This system included the rotation of staff to allow quality interaction with the students fairly while allowing the students to develop their independent learning ability
  • As a result of this scheme, the students developed better confidence in all subjects, and the general improvement for all students was at least an increase by an entire grade in all subjects.
  • Used relevant data to monitor progress, set targets and plan subsequent lessons.
  • Gave students regular constructive feedback to improve pupils learning.
  • Met with both students and parents termly to report progress and address learning challenges.

Intern

B.S.M. BATIM
08.2020 - 09.2020
  • A month-long internship in Ivory Coast Abidjan under the management of a senior engineer
  • During this thriving internship, I demonstrated proficiency in technical tasks by effectively utilising AutoCAD software, Excel, and project management tools
  • I played a key role in the management of projects, by tracking material quantity calculations, plan design and site inspections increasing the team's efficiency
  • The experience was greatly beneficial, in helping me develop a comprehensive understanding of the responsibilities and duties of civil engineering through hands-on experience and close collaboration with industry professionals.
  • Shadowed manager to broaden knowledge and learn tasks.
