As a Junior Clinical Fellow in ENT at St George’s Hospital, I:

• Support consultants on the ward and during on-calls
• Clerk patients, manage investigations, and update EMRs
• Liaise with MDTs for holistic patient care
• Manage acutely unwell patients and escalate appropriately
• Run outpatient and microsuction clinics
• Perform ENT procedures (e.g. nasal cautery, quinsy aspiration, suturing)
• Assist in theatre (e.g. thyroidectomy, parotidectomy, adenotonsillectomy)
• Attend MDTs and communicate with patients and families

My clinical observation was in the Complex and Coronary Care Unit (CCCU), I was involved in:

• Participating in ward rounds and patient case discussions.
• Observing patient care assessments, including NEWS and clerking.
• Attending discussions on management plans, DNACPR, and family consultations.
• Observing various procedures such as cardiac interventions, and non-invasive ventilation (NIV).
• Observing emergency case management with the Acute Medicine & On Call Team.
• Attending multidisciplinary and bereavement meetings for collaborative patient care.
• Participating in e-learning and educational sessions on insulin therapy and non-invasive ventilation.

During my clinical observation under Consultant Geriatrician in Orthogeriatric Ward, I was involved in:

• Attending daily board rounds and trauma meetings.
• Observing F2 doctors managing elderly patients with musculoskeletal conditions.
• Shadowing tasks such as clerking, managing drug charts, requesting tests, making referrals, and performing bedside procedures.
• Observing on-take and post-take responsibilities.
• Conducting comprehensive geriatric assessments and participating in best interest meetings.
• Learning the use of purple butterfly approach, and ReSPECT forms.
• Familiarizing electronic medical record systems and NHS hospital workflows.

Palace hospital is one of the biggest multi-specialty hospitals in Upper Myanmar, which has variety of specialist services and sub specialties including Psychiatry. I managed the care of 25-30 patients per shift.

My responsibilities as Senior Medical Officer are;

• Conducted patient assessments and clerking.
• Provided medical care under the supervision of senior doctors across multiple specialties.
• Performed clinical procedures and emergency interventions.
• Assisted in various surgeries including laparoscopic surgeries.
• Assisted in responding to medical emergencies and provided support in critical care situations in ICU.
• Communicated with patients and their families about diagnoses, treatment plans, and health education.
• Actively participated in training sessions and sought guidance from senior medical staff.

Delivered comprehensive medical care across four major rotations: Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynecology (OG), and Pediatrics, each for three months. The team of 5 house officers managed the care of 60-80 patients per shift.

• Clinical Rotations:

Medicine: Managed chronic and acute conditions, conducted patient assessments, and developed treatment plans.
Surgery: Assisted in surgical procedures, performed preoperative and postoperative care, and managed wound care.
Obstetrics & Gynecology: Assisted in deliveries, performed antenatal and postnatal care, and managed gynecological emergencies.
Pediatrics: Conducted child health assessments, managed common pediatric conditions, assisted in paediatric surgeries, and administered vaccinations.

• Emergency Response: Responded to medical emergencies in all rotations, providing immediate care and stabilization.
• Clinical Procedures: Performed procedures such as venous cannulation, catheterization, lumbar puncture, intubation, and wound suturing.
• Patient Education: Educated patients and their families about health conditions, treatments, and preventive care.
• Team Collaboration: Collaborated with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement patient care plans.
• Professional Development: Attended training sessions, clinical meetings, and educational programs to enhance medical knowledge and skills.
