I was a dedicated, enthusiastic teacher of students with additional learning needs (ALN). My role as a teacher included the following:

• Creating and delivering a person centred , multi-sensory curriculum for students with profound and multiple learning difficulties
• Creating multi-sensory environments to promote a feeling of well-being and to make learning fun and accessible to all
• Implementing the use of technology to allow students to access everyday activities
• Adapting traditional/popular stories and books into sensory stories to ensure literature was accessible to all
• Delivering highly motivating activities using ICT
• Calmly supporting students with complex health needs
• Adapting and delivering programmes to support students with autism
• Creating and delivering engaging activities to promote independence and life skills
• Devising motivating activities to promote basic skills such as numeracy and communication through everyday activities
• Delivering activities to promote communication and social skills
• Developing strategies to support students with challenging behaviour
• Motivating and directing a class team of 5 learning support assistants to provide the best holistic learning experiences for each student
• Observing, monitoring and assessing student development and using this information to inform future teaching and learning
• Working as part of a multi-agency team
• Writing reports and attending meetings
• Working as part of the expressive arts team to provide creative activities for the whole school to enjoy

I was a highly skilled LSA working with students with additional learning needs. This was a varied role with both class based duties and duties throughout the school supporting students communication development. My role included the following:

• Working under the direction of the teacher to deliver differentiated learning activities
• Ensuring resources were in good order
• Creating a motivating learning environment
• Delivering programmes to promote independence skills
• Creating stimulating displays of students work
• Fostering excellent relationships with students
• Working under the direction of the speech therapist, I delivered differentiated communication programmes to students with a range of abilities
