Julian Hodgson

As Head of Safeguarding I am responsible for the delivery of safeguarding services across the Diocese of Southwell and Nottingham for the Church of England. I advise the Bishop and senior staff on all safeguarding matters and manage the safeguarding team (consisting of 6 members) providing training and undertaking risk assessments and managing those who pos a risk to others within the church, thorough professional investigations into reported incidents, leading to accurate record-keeping, and joint working with statutory agencies.

As one of the directors, I ensure that safeguarding is embedded across all departments working closely with other directors to fulfil the diocesan mission.

As part of the East Midlands Region, I work collaboratively with Regional Safeguarding Lead and the other five Diocesan Safeguarding Officers to ensure best practice is shared and each diocese is supported to ensure high quality services are provided at all times.

I work with the National Safeguarding Team on a variety of projects including design and delivery of the National Senior Leaders Safeguarding Training.

Similar duties to current role but for a different diocese.

• Chair up to 3 Child Protection Case Conferences or Reviews each day.
• Advise statutory agencies on all safeguarding children matters.
• Undertake monthly quality assurance exercises in respect of social work cases across the county.
• Assist with Multi-Agency Safeguarding Training.
• Undertook 4 Management reports for Serious Case Reviews.

Agency work (fixed term contract 6 months) with Foster Care Associates:

• Managed a Fostering Social Work Team of four social workers.
• Managed the office departmental budget in line with FCA policy.
• Quality assure social work assessments and undertake foster carer reviews.

Agency work (fixed term contract 2months with Derbyshire County Council)

• Reviewed unallocated cases and produced work plans highlighting priority work that needed allocation.
• Reported to senior staff cases that should have been allocated and identifying reasons for delayed work.
• Produced interim Child Protection Plans to ensure children's safety prior to allocation.

• Managed the Disability Service (Children's) for Leicester City Council managing a team of seven social workers.
• Oversight of all needs led assessments and provision of care packages both full time and Respite Care for children with complex health care needs.
• Oversight of Child Protection and Care Proceedings for all disabled children in the city who had additional needs.
• Supervise social workers and ensure high quality services through audit and evaluation of work undertaken.
• Managed a children's social work team covering a geographical area in Leicester between 1994 and 1997 prior to Unitary status which involved all statutory children's social work including child protection and care proceedings work.

• Managed a social work team covering a small geographical area of Crawley.
• Managed the County Fostering and Adoption Team and a GP based Social Work Practitioner.
• Supervised eight social workers and monitored their work.
• Chaired the County Fostering Panel.
• Chaired Review Child protection and pre-birth Conferences

• Worked in a Multi-Agency Child Protection Team investigating complex Child Protection Cases with Police and Health Colleagues.
• Wrote child protection conference reports and court reports in care proceedings.

• Generic Children's work caseload including care proceedings and child protection.
• Fostering and adoption application assessments.
• Social Work Placement educator training and supervision of student social workers.
