Summary

As a final-year medical student at the University of Birmingham, I’ve developed strong academic and interpersonal skills that are valuable across many fields.

My hospital placements change every five weeks, which has taught me to adapt quickly to new environments and teams. I'm currently on my emergency medicine rotation, which has established my time management skills and delegation abilities. I enjoy the hands-on, fast paced nature of acute medicine, and have grown from the challenges presented.

This degree requires excellent interpersonal ability, an analytical mind and a strong commitment to medicine. I'm incredibly proud to be apart of medical profession, which I believe has taught me transferable skills that would be suitable in many professions.

I’m now looking for opportunities that will broaden my experience and allow me to build on the knowledge and insight I’ve gained through my rigorous medical training.

Work history

Basic Life Support Instructor

Resuscitation for Medical Discipline Committee
Birmingham
2023.10 - 2024.10
  • For one year, I taught Basic Life Support (BLS) every Monday to students in the College of Medical and Dental Sciences at the University of Birmingham. The sessions covered CPR, AED use, the recovery position, rescue breaths, paediatric BLS, tourniquet application, and the Heimlich manoeuvre (aka abdominal thrusts).
  • I would teach approximately ten students, encouraging hands-on practice and peer feedback to build confidence and skill. Every third Monday was assessment night, which required close coordination and organisation with fellow instructors to ensure smooth delivery.
  • Teaching has been a privilege, and I'm proud to have been part of a team dedicated to sharing such essential, life-saving knowledge.

Student Staff (Welcome Team) - Temporary

University of Birmingham - Guild of Students
Birmingham
2023.09 - 2023.10
  • My 'Student Staff' role involved welcoming first-year students and their families as they moved into university accommodation.
  • I helped carry belongings to their rooms, answered questions, and eased any concerns about starting life at the University of Birmingham.
  • The position required a friendly, approachable manner and the ability to remain calm and reassuring when others were stressed or emotional. It was a rewarding experience that strengthened my confidence in meeting new people and supporting them through periods of transition.

Administrative Support

AQA
Manchester
2023.06 - 2023.08
  • For three months, I provided media and administrative support during the exam season at AQA. My main responsibilities included verifying that MFL speaking exam files were uncorrupted and accurately uploaded, as well as quality-checking mark sheets from examiners whose results required further review. This demanded a high level of attention to detail, as any errors could directly affect students' GCSE and A-level grades.
  • To perform the role effectively, I completed rigorous computer training in AQA's internal software systems and quickly became confident navigating large volumes of sensitive data. I also worked closely with a supportive team, developing a professional yet friendly rapport that helped maintain a calm and efficient working environment during busy periods.
  • This experience not only strengthened my IT and data management skills but also enhanced my ability to work precisely under pressure and uphold high standards of accuracy.
