Work history

Senior Sister (Band 7) – Paediatric & Adult Recovery

04.2021 - 09.2025
  • My primary responsibility is to ensure that care is delivered to adults and children to a consistently high standard.
  • This means acting as a role model and clinical expert within the Recovery rooms, as well as managing and supporting the team in all aspects (rostering, attendance management, formation and overseeing of competency documents, wellbeing support).
  • I am responsible for designing and monitoring auditing process, analysing and sharing results via governance pathways.
  • I monitor and investigate adverse incidents and ensure learning takes place.
  • I am passionate about ensuring clinical knowledge is consistent amongst the team, and I regularly facilitate SIM learning and other development opportunities.
  • In 2024 I was identified as having ‘Instructor Potential’ during my European Paediatric Advanced Life Support refresher course.
  • Subsequently, I have undertaken my General Instructor Course and hope to soon join the Resuscitation Council as an EPALS instructor outside my usual role.

Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (Band 5)

  • Basic responsibilities included: Forming part of the multidisciplinary team in order to provide holistic care of critically unwell infants and children in single or multi-system organ failure, or those receiving end-of-life care.
  • I would be responsible for performing and documenting all care for the child and their family, including management of ventilation (IV & NIV), circulation, neurological care, mobility, medications, and psychological support.

  • Basic Responsibilities included: all Band 5 responsibilities plus pastoral care of a team of nursing staff.
  • Primarily working clinically, monitoring and ensuring delivery of excellent quality care to children and their families, supporting my team to do the same.
  • I also worked clinically in Adult Recovery areas where required, and was redeployed to Adult Intensive Care for a 6-week period to support during a COVID-19 surge early in 2021.

Theatre Practitioner (Band 5) – Paediatric Recovery

  • Basic responsibilities included: Care of the child in the post-operative phase, including ABCDE assessment and treatment including airway management (use of adjuncts), maintenance of haemostasis, nausea and pain management and supportive care of the child and their family.
