Summary

I am not afraid to recognise my own limitations within my own knowledge and skill set and
work within safety limits to the Trust policies and guidelines.
I am never afraid to ask for support or advice myself. I find it easy to adapt to change and
have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. I am able to communicate effectively
and appropriately with a vast array of people including team members and relatives of the
patient, adapting tone and level of language to different situations. I am able to collect the
patient from the ward and communicate with team members and the patient and their family.
I check all required documentation.
I work very well as part of a multi-disciplinary team, as well as working on my own
initiative. I can understand and speak basic Welsh. I can work under pressure and to time
scales. I am aware of the appropriate agencies to contact if there was any concern regarding
potential or actual risk to a patient and recording on DATIX. I understand the importance of
maintaining confidentiality within practice.
I have good IT skills, awareness of Microsoft applications and other software programmes
and use the computer on a daily basis.
As a circulating nurse providing additional supplements or equipment, checking swabs,
needles and instruments with the scrub nurse and completing any required documentation. I
helped other team member's clean theatre after cases and at the end of the lists.
Before any operation commences I can carry out the WHO check list. This check enables me
to confirm the patients identity against the patient (wristband, notes, and verbally with patient
if possible), the consent form, and theatre list to ensure that everything is correct in order for
the operation to go as planned and highlighting any vital patient information such as allergies
if there are any prosthesis are made aware of and any issues are addressed before the
operation starts.
My duties include the preparation of theatres at the beginning of a list i.e. – ensuring that
theatres are suitably stocked; equipment such as the diathermy and suction is in working
order and that any other equipment required is available for the operation to take place. I
ensure that all instrument sets are available as requested by the surgeon and if not go and
collect the appropriate trays and supplements
