Summary

I am a very loyal and dedicated employee, having worked in the field of substance use for nearly 27 years , working in the main in Criminal Justice Drug Treatment prior to my current role . As a result I have a deep understanding of service provision and hold excellent knowledge on substance use issues and treatment. my practice is embedded in HarmReduction strategies and one which seeks to treat all individuals with respect and dignity ,challenge stigma and promote inclusion .I have experience in youth and community development , working with women and women only provision and homeless provision as well as my own life experiences .

I am very pro active in the community and have developed and strengthened positive working relationships with partners and those who use our services And my efforts to deploy excellent harm reduction strategies is authentic and real . i am a passionate advocate for Harm Reduction and have been part of the wider UK Harm Reduction Alliance for many years . This strengthens my work and knowledge base and enables me to build a wide and diverse network of Harm Reduction Leaders and have worked closely with the previous safer lives lead in order to promote our work on the national stage .

KEY ACHIEVEMENTS

Working in partnership to plan ,develop and train frontline officers on overdose prevention and Nyxoid administration which culminated in 14 lives saved and winning a prestigious award , LGC Awards 2025 in the Public Partnership Category


Co working with people who use drugs to create a presentation which respectively showed the impact of overdose death and non fatal death has on communities as well as telling us what Harm Reduction approaches used and the importance of Naloxone carriage .This was delivered alongside previous safer lives lead who lead on synthetic opiods and response

Co working to design and develop and deliver “what makes a good harm reduction session “ at wider Turning Point staff Development days based on LLR good practice .

I would Relish taking on the role of National harm Reduction Lead and believe I have the attitude ,skills ,experience and knowledge in order to carry out the role .

  • Implement harm reduction strategies which seek to minimise the adverse consequences of drug use whilst maximising positive outcomes for people who use drugs with people in treatment as well as those who are disconnected from services.
  • Strengthening joint working in order to deliver excellent quality Harm Reduction training, expand Naloxone provision and carriage alongside key harm reduction messages .Enabling wider community involvement in overdose prevention .
  • Work in partnership with Police to sustain wider Naloxone roll out , work with information on local hot spots for non fatal overdose in order to target service provision.
  • Continuous staff development delivering training and development at train the trainer level to Turning Point employees ensuring people have the necessary skills knowledge and tools to provide quality harm reduction interventions, anti stigma messaging on all substances to all groups of people from varied backgrounds , cultures and experiences .
  • Use up to date research from both living experience and academic work on trends in drugs supply and work with the opioid response framework, Lead on LDIS , including peer led alerts from people with living experience , empowering inclusion and developing strategies to maximise inclusion with people who use drugs
  • Presentation skills . Experience of designing and presenting material to national conferences , Turning Point Staff Development days, commissioners, partners and community groups in a variety of ways and ways which involve living experience voice . Organised own conference on Stigma alongside people with lived experiences and support LLR with staff development via gaining leading presenters in the Harm Reduction field .
  • Working directly in NSP provision and with outreach and hostel provision to positively engage people in OST prescribing ,BBV testing , housing support , and other wraparound service partners particularly those that struggle with structured treatment models .
  • Proactive attendance at Turning Point National Harm Reduction Forum leading on International overdose awareness day , attendance at DDN and generally being a proactive voice
  • Developing new service provision for people who use crack cocaine and contributing to the new crack cocaine pathway
  • Member of Action Homeless women's Harm Reduction Network working on ways to reduce Stigma , deliver trauma informed practice in diverse settings , design and deliver training on women's harm reduction .
