I am an experienced practitioner with a strong background in working with children and young people with SEMH and complex needs, many of whom are known to Children’s Services under Care Orders, Child in Need plans, or through the Children with Disabilities Team. My practice is rooted in safeguarding, stability, and relationship based work, with a clear focus on promoting permanence and positive long-term outcomes for children and families.
I have extensive experience working directly with vulnerable children and their families, using strength-based and trauma informed approaches to build trust, promote emotional safety, and support stability within placements. I am confident in undertaking direct work with children, including supporting emotional regulation, attachment needs, and resilience, and I understand the importance of life story work in helping children make sense of their experiences and identity.
I work closely and collaboratively with parents, carers, and a wide range of external agencies, including social workers, education settings, health professionals, and specialist services. Many of the families I support experience high levels of stress, conflict, and competing demands, and I am skilled in balancing empathy with professional challenge, ensuring that the child’s needs remain central while supporting adults to move forward positively.
I have strong working knowledge of safeguarding legislation and statutory frameworks, including the Children Act, safeguarding procedures, and multi-agency working. I am confident in recognising risk, analysing behaviour and presentation, and escalating concerns appropriately and promptly in line with policy and safeguarding expectations.
My experience includes supporting children and families through periods of instability and transition, responding flexibly to changing needs, often at short notice. I am calm under pressure and able to manage competing priorities while maintaining accurate, timely recording and professional standards. I understand the importance of clear documentation and have experience using a wide range of systems and packages, ensuring information is recorded thoroughly, accurately, and in line with service requirements.
I am highly skilled in communication and able to adapt my approach depending on the audience, whether working one-to-one with a child, supporting parents and carers, delivering training, or contributing to multi-disciplinary meetings. I am confident in managing challenging behaviour and difficult conversations, using de-escalation techniques while maintaining clear boundaries and professional expectations.
I have experience delivering and contributing to training and support for parents and carers, and I am comfortable presenting information both verbally and in writing. I am able to research, analyse, and present complex information in a clear, meaningful way to inform decision-making and improve practice.
I am organised, self directed, and able to prioritise my workload effectively while recognising when to seek guidance or escalate matters to a Team Manager or Assistant Team Manager. I work professionally, accurately, and within agreed timescales, always mindful of the wider impact of my work on children, families, and the service as a whole.
I am committed to promoting a positive image of Children’s Services and the council, working proactively with internal and external stakeholders, and contributing to a supportive, responsive team culture. I am flexible in my approach to working, including attending events, meetings, and training as required, and I understand the need for occasional evening, weekend, and agile working to meet service demands.
Overall, I bring a strong understanding of vulnerability, permanence, and the realities faced by children and families, alongside a practical, compassionate, and resilient approach that aligns closely with the values and requirements for this position.
