
A dedicated Control Engineer with 10 years of experience within the electricity distribution industry. Having a strong foundation in engineering principles, and a thorough understanding of operational safety and control. The ability to work under pressure, responding to emergency situations with decisive decision making. An effective communicator with the ability to adapt to situations on demand, and collaborating with field staff and stakeholders.
• Assessing HV System security and actions necessary to maintain optimum security on the electrical distribution network, ensuring all operations are carried out within the Distribution Safety Rules and other appropriate Company policy and regulations
• Operation of the company Network Control System up to 11kV, including switching and alarm management, and maintaining a record of all items.
• Checking and approval of planned switching schedules at all voltages up to 11kV.
• Approving the release of plant and equipment from service for work or testing, and consenting to the issue of Safety Documents up to 11kV.
• Carrying out a quality audit of Safety Documents returned from field operators at all voltages up to 11kV.
• Supporting the operational response to network emergencies or unplanned events.
• Facilitating the connection and commissioning of new plant and equipment at all voltages up to 11kV.
• Provide advice and solutions for matters relating to electrical systems and events impacting or likely to impact on the distribution network.
• Issuing field control on defined sections of network up to 11kV.
• Fault switching to enable rapid restoration of customers supplies at all voltages up to 11kV.
• Responding to situations compromising public safety by danger from the system.
• Maintaining and ensuring an accurate record of customer outage data that is recorded for Interuptions Incentive Scheme reporting.
• Supporting the operational development of other people, such as trainees.
• Any other duties as directed by a Network Operations Manager that are required for network safety, security, or continuity
• Design schemes that align with our Engineering Directives
• Prepare plans, schematics, wayleaves, notices, materials schedules, terms, quotations and agreements
• Determine the what, how and cost for individual projects, and approve them
• Resolve customer complaints
• Set up scheme files and close down on completion
• Monitor costs on individual capital sanctions, identify and comment on variances, and take corrective action
• Visit sites and work from developer plans
• Construct distribution substations, excavate, lay and joint cables, and terminate cables to plant
• Carry out routine inspection, locate faults and carry out repairs on underground cables and equipment
• Record asset details and positions
• Locate and identify cables, test insulation, phasing and continuity
• Test earthing, voltage, phasing and phase rotation
• Carry out switching operations on the LV network
