I have spent the past 2 years travelling across Latin America, and this has helped me to improve my fluency in Spanish. During this personal experience I have strengthened my ability to collaborate effectively in multicultural teams, adapt to new environments and lead with empathy when working and leading teams. Squadron Engineer Officer

  • Lead engineering officer to a squadron of 5 ships.
  • Required to provide oversight and assurances to the commander for any major equipment defects, with timelines for repair.
  • Supported members of ships company for the logistics of equipment and materials required to fix major defects.

  • Provided engineering assistance and oversight, with an allied nation, during a complex transition of ownership of warships.
  • Lead in creating a new role within the ships engineering department to support the command teams ‘ /better, but also allow progress within the same model of ships.
  • Responsible for the divisional wellbeing and professional progress within the Royal Navy of 14 highly skilled engineers.
  • This also included writing up annual reports for the engineers across the various ships.

Deputy Weapon Engineer Officer

  • Projected managed the generation of the weapons, sensors & communication systems onboard a warship – from idle to deployment ready, for a highly important national tasking.
  • Oversaw installation, testing and commissioning of engineering systems to meet performance and safety requirements.
  • Organised all the trials as the lead Weapon Engineer and undertook the role of Trials Officer for all the weapons, sensors and communication equipment, on behalf of command as part of the post-dormancy and pre-deployment requirements and successfully achieved this on a reduced timeline in order to meet the ships strict timeline.
  • Managed relationships between various external and internal engineers and organisations when booking different assets, locations and timings for the trials to be conducted.
  • Led and managed a department of 34 engineers, ensuring the department met the command aims, maintenance was up to date and their personal development and growth was being managed and carefully looked after.
  • This also included being responsible for writing up annual reports for 10 members of my department as well as successfully managing their wellbeing, needs and their professional progress within the Royal Navy.
  • Led, organized and planned multi-day ammunitioning serials, ensuring all safety measures were conducted throughout the serials, supporting the logistics department for the accounting of various ammunition.
  • Conducted bi-weekly safety checks of all ammunition storage locations, reporting any safety concerns to Command, ensuring the safety of personnel on board the ship.
  • Qualified as Officer of the Day, ensuring the safety of the Ship, on behalf of Command, as well as the overall running of the Ship during complex maintenance periods, ensuring safety standards were adhered to.
  • Led the creation and organisation of the administration and paperwork for the Department, following its long term dormancy, in accordance with the Royal Navy's general standing orders and requirements.
  • Trained junior engineers and provided mentorship, enhancing their skill set and knowledge base, enhancing their opportunities for promotion.
  • Led team meetings, fostering effective communication amongst the team.
  • Resolved complex issues, applying troubleshooting and critical thinking to address numerous technical solutions.
  • Successfully passed a rigorous 2 day examination to obtain my Weapon Charge Qualification, the hardest and last qualification required. Earned by demonstrating advance expertise and comprehensive knowledge within the Weapon Engineer department as well as the wider Navy.

  • Led and managed a team of 12 dedicated engineers to resolve and maintain complex communication and IT equipment during hostile environments, constantly maintaining operational capability and meeting command aims.
  • Responsible for providing briefs to the command and ships company, as well as orchestrating repairs of engineering problems, as a qualified Duty System Engineer.
  • Led and facilitated engineering project meetings, collaborating with Naval personnel onboard and civilian contractors
  • Qualified as the Command Advisor Assistant, providing up to date, quick fire briefs on equipment status and availability during high stress environments as preparation for deployments and national taskings into potential hostile environments.
