Joshua Hewitt

I have been teaching swimming for the past 2 years over various locations across Cwmbran, Newport, Chepstow and Monmouth. Working across these areas provides evidence to show my passion to work and willingness to travel to various locations to do so. I have aslo upgraded my qualification from the STA Level 2 award to the more advanced certificate to further expand my knowledge. Additionally I also have gained specialized qualifications through autism swim to work closely with children with additional needs.

Working in different locations with children of all different abilities has enabled me to experience many different aspects to swimming teaching and have good knowledge on how to deal with children effectively both as an individual and in a group. I have further qualifications in pool lifeguarding, manual handling, team teach(de-escalation techniques) and pool water treatment. I am constantly evaluating my teaching to ensure I am delivering the most enjoyable and productive lesson. I also conduct assessments on the children who I teach to keep track on progress and inform parents on how their child is performing.

In the summer of 2023 I embarked on a trip to Tanzania for 2 weeks through challenges abroad where I volunteered in schools to help refurbish classes and taught lessons in English, sports and cleanliness. This trip allowed me to experience to work abroad and gave me challenges when teaching such as trying to overcome language barrier and poor facilities.

This experience has inspired me to continue to travel and found a passion in working abroad.
