Joshua Haggart

Highly driven and personable final-year medical student aspiring to specialise as a clinician-researcher in Psychedelic Psychiatry. My personal recovery from obsessive compulsive disorder has catalysed my desire to advance psychedelic medicine, particularly psilocybin-assisted therapy. Currently developing a systematic review examining psilocybin’s efficacy in OCD- addressing a critical research gap identified in recent literature. I build my curiosity with the latest developments in Psychedelic Research through regular reading of the Journal of Neuropsychopharmacology and engagement with drug science podcasts and student society networks. Passionate about advancing mental health treatments aided by my experience in research publishing in prestigious journals including BJPsych Open and Emergency Medical Journal.

• Widening Participation Medics Network National Conference, 07/01/25, Co-organiser, Currently co-organising the WPMN National Conference 2025. Leading the development of workshops focused on mental health awareness in medical education.
• Scottish Emergency Medicine Conference, 2024, Delivered an oral presentation at the Scottish Emergency Medicine Conference 2024 (national conference hosted by the Royal College of Emergency Medicine). Received outstanding feedback with 92.4% of attendees rating the presentation as 'Good' or 'Excellent' and scoring exceptionally well with 91.1% 'Good' or 'Excellent' ratings from conference attendees.

• Proficient in playing electric guitar with a particular passion for rock, blues and jazz genres
• Taekwondo 2nd Dan Black Belt - from competing in numerous local/national competitions to representing Scotland at the Taekwondo World Championships. Experience tailoring my taekwondo coaching to children with autism and down's syndrome
• Rugby: Avid fan and player with a deep passion for the sport. Regularly participate in local rugby leagues and worked at international rugby events.
• Passionate about body conditioning, nutrition and development and striving to achieve my personal fitness goals.

This funding facilitated my engagement in an international academic experience aligned with my research interests in psychedelic studies.
