Joshua Evans BEng (Hons) IEng MICE

Barry,Vale of Glamorgan

Summary

With over 7 years of experience within the water industry, I have had the opportunity to demonstrate core competencies across potable and sewer pipeline design, concrete structure design, and project management. My ability within the Civil Engineering field was formally recognised when I received Incorporated Engineer Status on behalf of the Institution of Civil Engineers. I am naturally a team player and want those around me to succeed, whether that be through me providing support when I have been the lead designer on programmes of work or with their professional development as a part of the ICE.

  • Lead design and programme lead of the Potable Water Meter Program. Involved in over 240-meter schemes from feasibility through to construction. Responsibilities include design, cost management and project/resource management.
  • Lead Design Engineer of the Major Trunk Mains repair programme. Involved in undertaking complex designs ranging from valve repacking, air valve replacement, mains encapsulation, flowstops and main replacement.
  • A reliable and trusted engineer as part of the reactive and standby rota with a demonstrated ability to work under pressure. Involving providing out-of-hours engineering support during high-risk business incidents such as Victorian brick egg sewer collapse, trunk mains bursts resulting in thousands out of water, retaining wall failure and sink holes.
  • Directly involved in high-profile Multi-Discipline Projects as instructed by the directorship level. Responsible for delivering key elements of civil design work under significant time pressures, involving but not limited to pipeline, foundation, drainage and wall coring design.
  • Led a worldwide innovation project where I was independently able to organise a global trial in Wales to understand how asset condition assessments could be undertaken without excavations.
  • Undertook the role of NEC supervisor as a part of DCWW AMP8 Major Frameworks.

Trainee Civil Engineer

Welsh Water
09.2018 - 08.2021
  • Assisted the programme manager with the scheme allocation and cost benefit analysis of the £120 million Zonal study programme, whilst within the asset management team. This involved working with key design consultancies to understand network performance.
  • Spent time with the lead hydraulic modeller of the business, understanding the use of the Syngeri Hydraulic modelling software and how it is utilised to assess water quality, customer minutes lost and required tanker operations.
  • Responsible for providing design drawings for senior civil design engineers as part of the zonal study programme, which enabled me to become efficient at using AutoCAD software
  • Gained core design experience in potable water design during dry weather resource schemes to assist the water resource teams across Wales. Gain experience from pipeline specification and standards, fittings, thrust blocks and CDM regulations.
  • Granted the opportunity to shadow various business units to gain a core understanding and appreciation of the water industry and how the business functions, enabling me to build a good network, which enabled smoother project delivery in my future schemes.
