Hello. My name is Joseph David Richardson. Known to friends as Joe. I have enjoyed a fulfilling life and career. First in Education management, where my greatest achievement was securing Secretary of State for Education approval for my proposals to reform secondary, college, youth and adult education services - upon the abolition of the Inner London Education Authority - as part of the transition to Local Authority management.
This was followed by a long period of support for my disabled father. Subsequently, on recruiting professional carers to assist my father, I then enjoyed a completely new experience, in Coffee management, selecting beans to be roasted to my specific taste and selling through a pop up coffee shop in central London.
In due course, I sold my shop and returned to providing full time care, this time for both my parents in their latter years. I thoroughly enjoyed my earlier careers in Education and then coffee management. They could not have been more different! But I found caring for someone, albeit my own parents, the most rewarding experience of all.
I am a naturally compassionate person. Dedicated to providing the best public service possible to others less fortunate than myself. And I take great satisfaction knowing that In some small ways, I helped make the lives of my parents more fulfilling. I am now at a point in life and an age, where I want to be more hands on, to devote time and give more intensive support, one to one, to help other individual clients have a rewarding life.
I remain in excellent health and have no plans to wind down for the considerable future. Hopefully, I have a wealth of experience to bring and am mature enough to be able to cope with whatever life throws at me, knowing my own limitations and when to call upon the skills and services of other professionals, particularly if my client faces specific health challenges outside of my experience.
I trust future clients and their loved ones will, as with my own parents, find me to be a responsible and safe pair of hands, someone who is a warm companion and in whom they can entrust their care and support in their later years.
Footnote: my home is in Pinner Middlesex on the metropolitan line to London main line stations, from which I can reach most parts of the UK. I also have my late mother’s home in the north east of England. Thus, I am very flexible as to where my future client might be based.
I would prefer to live in to avoid excessive amounts of daily travelling.
Ideally for a minimum of two up to twelve weeks, followed by a short break.
My rates are negotiable around your needs.

Stimulation and distraction/calming techniques for dementia sufferers
Companionship
Food preparation, meal serving and feeding, housework, gardening and general errands.
I fulfilled this role from 2018 until my parents passed
very recently.
I took on this role after sourcing professional help for my father who was disabled and had sadly, lost the use of both his legs, leaving him prone to falls. It enabled me to fulfil a dream to work in the coffee field as well as operate flexible hours. By locating my business close to Kings Cross station, this allowed me to travel to my parents home at short notice, in case of health emergency and to also, relieve carers at the weekends.
My duties included:
Locating suitable premises
Fitting out and brand imaging
Selection of equipment, product ranges and furnishings
Running the coffee outlet assisted by a long term friend
Financial monitoring and accounting
I sold the outlet to my friend in June 2018 as, by this point, both my parents required considerable ongoing support and this, I relocated to the north as their personal carer.
I worked my way up from a starting position of Higher Clerical Officer, to various management postings, completing my career upon the GLC’s abolition by central Government, at which point I was holding the position of Assistant Divisional Education Officer (deputy to the Chief Education Officer). Responsible for policy and strategy advice to Headteachers and school governing bodies, the GLC Review of Secondary & Tertiary level education and resulting reorganisation plans, acting as Staffing Officer to several hundred personnel and the smooth transition of the education service to London borough management and transfer of staff seeking to remain in employment to their new employer.
Upon the GLC abolition, I was able to devote time supporting my father, whose gradual loss of mobility and related health concerns, were too great for my mother to cope with alone.
Good organisation and time management
