In my current role as Section Manager for Distribution and Plant, I am responsible for the leadership and operational management of a team of 22 staff, comprising 9 Technicians, 9 Team Leaders, 2 Supervisors, 1 Planner, and 1 Administrator. Carrying out planned and reactive maintenance while also attending faults and faliures.

As a Section Supervisor in Distribution and Plant, I played a pivotal role during a significant transition of staff, where I gained valuable experience in interviewing and on-boarding new employees. I am responsible for planning distribution work across a large area, making HV bookings and assessing staff competencies to ensure a skilled workforce. My role involves liaising with contractors on cyclical maintenance tasks and delivering team brief presentations focused on safety and company changes. I am dedicated to driving company standards, ensuring that all staff are informed of the latest technical updates. Additionally, I provide regular updates to higher management, report ongoing faults to asset teams for resolution, and collaborate with planners to develop Safe Systems of Work (SSOW) that prioritise the safety of staff working on the track. I also gained the following competencies in this role.
As a Team Leader, I was responsible for carrying out electrical maintenance and repairs across the South Eastern region, leading teams of varying sizes to ensure efficient and effective operations. I took pride in developing new staff and mentoring apprentices, helping them grow into valued and skilled technicians within the organisation. This role allowed me to gain essential competencies, including Level A and B isolation/earthing and issuing safety documentation, as well as COSS (Controller of Site Safety) certification. Additionally, I became proficient in HV and DC protection testing and First Aid, further enhancing my ability to lead teams safely and effectively in high-pressure environments.
As a Technician in Distribution and Plant, I gained extensive experience and developed a wide range of competencies essential for maintaining and ensuring the reliability of electrical systems. I undertook maintenance on SCADA systems and inspected the traction power distribution infrastructure, which enhanced my technical expertise. My role involved pilot cable testing and performing preventative maintenance on various equipment, including batteries, chargers, CTS and CTIs, DC switchgear, HV switchgear, LVAC switchgear, rectifiers, and transformers. I became proficient in isolating Category A switchgear and working with Category 3 gas-insulated switchgear, as well as handling and recovering SF6 gas. Additionally, I acquired PTS certification, learned the safe use of generator equipment, and developed skills in LOLA (Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment), all of which contributed to my ability to work safely and effectively in a dynamic environment.
