Work history

Area manager

South Lanarkshire Council
Glasgow, South Lanarkshire
08.2022 - Current

In my current position as a building services officer/area manager within the domestic gas heating section at South Lanarkshire Council, the variety of my work ranges from; Overseeing gas safety compliance, managing the domestic heating upgrades program, day to day management of employees, organisation of workload, surveying jobs, liaising with subcontractors, implementing risk assessments along health & safety protocols and dealing with tenants/councillor enquiries.

The current project most of my time is dedicated to is that of the domestic heating upgrades within the SLC housing stock, which currently comprises of over 25,000 properties. Our current aim is to upgrade every home to an A+ rated gas boiler or an air source heat pump installation (ASHP) as we progress towards Scotland's targets for nat zero carbon emissions. these upgrades are essential not only for the consumer, as it will save £ on their energy bills, but also for SLC itself as more efficient boilers will help maintain the condition of the properties they are installed in.

Since taking on this role I have helped implement numerous changes to the day to day management of the section, such as:

  • Assigning every engineer an updated van stock, ensuring they have the most common stock of parts for the boilers they repair on a daily basis. This has increased productivity by increasing the number of first time fixes, as well as having a positive financial impact upon the section as it cuts back on time and expenses accrued in return visits, as well as ensuring a higher percentage of customer satisfaction feedback.
  • Have engaged with the engineers working within the section to assess areas that they are unhappy with. For example, rotation of tasks on a daily basis. - highlighting this has lead to engineers being happier which in turn, has an increase on morale within the section.
  • Implementing a process where management and/or admin call and pre-arrange jobs that are waiting on parts. This has drastically improved the access rates of repairs, once again having a positive financial impact upon the section.
  • Coordinated with multiple teams, enhancing overall project coordination and productivity.
  • Ensured quality adherence by conducting regular audits of construction material and workmanship.
  • Resolved on-site issues swiftly, minimising potential delay in project schedule.
  • Adapted quickly to unforeseen changes without compromising on the timeline or quality of the projects.
  • Maintained strict adherence to health and safety regulations during all phases of construction projects.
