The purpose of Torq was to provide a freelance route setting service for climbing walls, the first of its kind in Scotland. This included traveling to various climbing walls, removing and washing holds, then setting new routes in their place, either on rope or bouldering walls. This line of work would require managing route setting schedules for multiple walls and delivering a high quality product that was creative, safe and fun to climb on for all abilities. This role involved managing staff and liaising with wall owners and managers to regularly evaluate the quality and difficulty of routes. It also involved careful time management in order to deliver on client expectations without compromising on quality.
This role included various projects in both hard and soft landscaping as well as garden maintenance. I was involved in building fences, decking & borders, patio and concrete base work. I worked both independently and as part of a team, I also took a lead role on some of the projects.
In this role of responsibility I was in charge of route setting and supervising the wider team. It was essential that I ensured the route setting was completed safely and in good time. Supervising duties would include training and managing staff, cashing up, locking up, safety checks and customer care. The customer facing side of this role also included running climbing sessions for kids and adults.
