In this role I'm head of 3 factories and all maintenance and uptake of machinery. We have daily meetings with the maintenance team to ensure all regular checks are made and all Preventative maintenance is kept to schedule. To ensure there is limited breakdowns and down time for production. In this role I'm also responsible to monitor the spending and budget of the maintenance of the 3 sites as it key to keep in budget and run things efficiently and in cost effective manner. I plan any large scale projects to work with production and within budget of the project. We will plan and work on as much of the project internally to limit the cost and need of using outside contractors. But where needed I organise out side contractors to ensure everything correct and within standards and regs.

Hydraulic technician / Lead Hand

I started working at the company as as Hose sale service technician. I have now changed positions to workshop lead hand as the personnel at the company had changed and I promoted to this role. As leading hand I'm responsible to ensure workshop tasks and kits are carried out efficiently and on time. While working with the workshop manager to help ensure the work targets are accomplished.

In the HSST role I would diagnose Faults with hydraulic hoses and fittings and replace with new on site and at customers premises. I would also make hydraulic hose kits for customers in the workshop when I am not in the van on breakdowns. I also have carried hose work on Drill re-builds where we examined parts closely to detect breakages and excessive wear due to misuse or equipment failures. I have worked on new drills carrying out fitting of new hoses made and fitted on site to fit the customers needs. I have only been in this role a short time but have learnt many extra skills and knowledge of hydraulic hose and fittings. What hoses and fittings are required due pressures and the load and use they are under. I talk to customers to find out their needs and fit accordingly. While always maintaining a good standard of workmanship knowing I am representing my employer.

Maintenance Engineer co-ordinator

In this role , I was in charge of all the maintenance of the 3 sites the company have. I was responsible for making sure the other two members of the maintenance team carried out tasks I had given them. This would entail the sites was well maintained and the daily maintenance and machine servicing was carried out to help prevent breakdowns. I was also hands on in this role as I would be part of the daily routines and breakdowns when they occurred. I was responsible for making sure the PAT testing was up to date , the electrical inspections on the consumer units and circuits around the factory had their 5 yearly inspections and the fire alarms was tested and up to date including fire extinguishers. I would liaise with outside contractors for this work to be undertaken.

I have accomplished to learn how to change 3 phase motors and how to fault find on 3 phase circuits and control panels. I have also carried out duties such changing light fittings in around the factories. I have worked on Pneumatic circuits and carried out repairs and new installations. I carry out daily preventative maintenance and checks on the machinery. This will include identifying faults with the machinery and replacing and masking a plan to replace wearing parts and any improvements that can made to the machinery. I also plan with the production team when we can carry out improvements on the machinery to make production lines more productive and reliable. I arrange with any outside contractors repairs to the factories that may be needed for example roof repairs. This would include getting quotes and arranging with the management team if it is viable for the company to do the works. During this time I have learned to lots of different mechanical and electrical principles. I have gained a NVQ Level 3 Extended Diploma in Mechanical manufacturing engineering. Advanced Level Apprenticeship in engineering manufacture (Mechanical Manufacturing Engineering) in the science , engineering and manufacturing technologies and I also attended a 3 day Basic Electrical City and Guilds accredited course. This role help provide me with many new engineering skills and commutation skills and a good understanding of needs for the business down to helping be more productive. Also helping learn when we can improve and when it is viable for the company to make improvements. Also during this role I have always implemented health and safety procedures and routines. Such as hot works permits , regular air quality test and made improvement wear needed for example we had a issue with too moisture in the air in a department and the fibre product was reacting so I carried out air tests and installed an industrial humidifier. I have also worked off CAD drawing for new machinery installations and also made CAD drawings for smaller jobs. We have planned and made improvements L.E.V systems and also had new installs. I have also Organised and directed maintenance shutdowns and start-ups. I have also enforced waste disposal, COSHH and all environmental procedures and regulations. During my time here I have completed my level 3 NVQ in engineering.

In this role I had my own company van and I would attend breakdowns and carry out pre delivery inspections and out of season preventative maintenance and services to the machinery. To do this I had to use skills such as welding and fabricating , reading hydraulic diagrams , working on 12 volt circuits and fault finding and using mechanical principles. I learnt many skills during this time such how to work productively in a team and how to deal with customer by representing my company in a polite and productive manner. I would fault find repair and test hydraulic systems. I would remove faulty hydraulic parts repair them and reinstall. I would work on hydraulic solenoids , hydraulic pumps and hydraulic motors. We also worked on and repaired pneumatic systems within the workshop. I would set parameters on the machine controls look into usage data. I would use machinery such as lathes and milling machine , pillar drill , bandsaw and guillotine to make components for the machines. To do this I would use measuring equipment such as micrometres and vernier callipers , tape measure , spirit level, protractors. To make these parts I would also have to interpret technical drawings. Use marking out equipment using things such as scribes and engineers chalk. When attending breakdowns I would analyse and assess the fault of the machinery then make a on the spot plan how to rectify the issue. This would require me to think quickly and productively. When in the workshop on repairs I would carry out many tasks such as using gas bottles for heating bearings for removable if stuck. I would perform plasma cutting , hand grinding , use the over head crane for heavy lifting , I would also perform manual handling on my and in a team depending on the size of the parts.

By doing this I learned to how to speak to customers in a positive manner and represent my company correctly. I adhered to the health and safely of the company and learnt the importance to work safely with the workforce and on my own. I also gained a NVQ Level 2 in performing engineering operations during this time , as well as learning many practical skills and knowledge along the way.
