My educational philosophy revolves around creating an inclusive and enjoyable learning environment while maintaining a strong focus on learning with high expectations. Using the National Curriculum, I design lessons that encourage children to establish connections between their existing knowledge and new concepts. To allow children to make connections, each lesson begins with a review task. The delivery of my lessons are underpinned by Rosenshine’s Principles. Learning is clearly modelled and explained and broken down into small steps and where needed, appropriate scaffold is provided to allow all children to access learning alongside their peers. Children develop and practise their skills through a range of strategies such as Kagan collaborative learning structures. As a research informed teacher, I always ensure that live marking is used to check children’s understanding and address misconceptions immediately. Questioning is used to move learners on and check understanding and as a result most children are able to access their learning independently.
I am familiar with a variety of assessment and recording trackers and use them proactively both for my own teaching and to summarise and report on a pupil's performance.
Throughout my career, I have built strong relationships with (often challenging/disengaged) parents and encouraged them to take a role in their child's learning, often breaking down the barriers between school and home by inviting them into school for an end of unit celebration of their work or performance.
The board of governors at my previous schools have commented on my dedication and commitment to school life, in particular my willingness to organise, manage and attend after school, fundraising, extra-curricular and inter-schools sporting events and residential visits, a part of school life I’ll never tire of, along with additional skills in communications such as social media, email, website management for the whole school and news updates on various platforms to ensure all parents and carers are reached.
Parents, colleagues and seniors describe me as sociable, approachable and hard-working with a sense of humour. I fully embrace all aspects of school life and fully believe that classroom practice is only part of the job, having also represented both staff and parents on the governing body at Benjamin Hargreaves C of E Primary. I am well prepared for most situations, I tend to meet deadlines early and have the ability to perform and deliver under pressure; a skill I developed within industry. I have high standards and expectations, and my natural enthusiasm and positivity help children meet these. Not one to stand still, I'm ambitious and keen to progress in my teaching, being a natural and experienced manager of people and enjoy additional responsibility.
