I started working in the JCB xp department on the build and development of new prototype construction machines.This started with The design Engineers drawing up part and sub assemblies which had to be made .This would involve welding and fabrication work,Machining components on the lathe and milling machine ,Making hydraulic hoses and piping up off machines and assembling all components to produce machines ready for test site.Once at test site we monitored machine performance where I would be a part of the team maintaining,carrying out services and repairs getting the machine into production.

I did this at several of of the JCB sites and on many different projects which I enjoyed very much

At ACB I was fitter on the marine side which involved adapting cranes from lorries to suit ones used on ships and small boats,also on sea piers to load/unload boats.

This role also involved making cranes to individual customer specifications and once made going and installing it,I also went out on site many times to carry out annual services,maintenance and yearly safety checks.This would also involved work on hydraulic winches and cranes on some ships to lower the safety boats down to the sea in an emergency

I started work at Belle as an apprentice straight from school on a 5yr apprenticeship which I really enjoyed.

This involved working for 3 months in all departments of the factory and then put in a position which suited both belle and employee the best.

I was in the toolroom and research and development department ,This work was making components off drawings making fabrications mechanical assembly and maintenance of all prototype machines and building and maintaining the production line for the new machine and once all was successfully finished work would commence on the next project,whilst at Belle I was given the opportunity to learn so many different things and had many different responsibilities, I learnt machining ,Welding and fabrication and lots involving Hydraulics which turned out to be the favourite part of my job making skidsteer loaders,

I have been involved with maintaining and servicing of mechanical equipment having been raised on a farm this started from a young age,

I work well in a team and also on my own,

I do enjoy been given the opportunity to gain further qualifications and gain experience when given the oppurtunity

Affiliations

  • Having grown up on a dairy farm I've always maintained an interest in agriculture. We had a tenancy on a Peak National park holding which we ran successfully for 17 years. Having now completed our barn conversion my family and I are happily settled in the small village of Reapsmoor.
