Community Manager

RGT Cycling (Wahoo)
Atlanta, USA
Oct 2018 - Oct 2023

I was not sure whether to include this as I saw it as a hobby but I averaged around 20 hours a week on it over 6 years so it was a large part of my working life.

I do a lot of cycling both real and using virtual cycling apps, in 2016 a new app launched called RGT Cycling which I felt had the potential to be very good. I formed a community discussion group around it, for 2 years I continually provided feedback to the CEO regarding what they needed to work on to improve the app.

In 2018 I was taken on as their official Community manager working remotely on a part time basis working evenings and weekends as I saw fit. The role was varied and due to the limited size of the team I found myself being involved in many aspects of the business.

  • Create support groups for various aspects of the apps focuses including technical support, racing (events) and GPX modelling.
  • Manage those groups to ensure swift response to technical questions and filter issues to the relevant departments.
  • Streamline general feedback to specific areas and prioritise comments to allow the development team in making swift adjustments to the app.
  • Create surveys to highlight features we were developing and ensure a particular feature set would meet the requirements of the customer base when launched.
  • Provide detailed feedback to various management level meetings on feature development for long term planning.
  • Test new features before launch and liaise with the various departments to ensure the feature would meet the stated company and community requirements.
  • Develop the community events program helping a large number of community event organisers with the promotion of their events.
  • Create a wide number of event promotional designs using Canva.
  • Develop GPX race courses for high value events including events for the UK, USA, Danish and Canadian e-sports cycling National Championships events.
  • Support the marketing team in its campaigns.
  • Monitor social media comments on various platforms offering support where required.
