  • Took environmental MPENV laboratory through ISO 17025:2017 compliance. After ISO accreditation, MPEnv was the only laboratory in KSA that had accreditation for air monitoring and analyses. MPEnv was also the laboratory with the most accredited analyses of any laboratory in KSA at that point. The preparation for the ISO 17025:2017 accreditation was done during COVID - that had its own set of challenges in a laboratory.

  • Sasol started to use the SAP Environmental Compliance (EC) Module (in Jul 2015) to ensure that Business units were compliant with the applicable environmental authorisations and operation environmental management plans. I single-handedly oversaw and managed the outrol of this project for Sasolburg Operations.
  • This process involved quality checks and updating 85 EAs on the SAP EC module. There were over 5000 conditions uploaded onto the SAP EC module.
  • I evaluated all Environmental Impact assessments (EIAs), Environmental Management programs (EMPrs,) Scoping Reports and EA (Environmental Authorisation to ensure that all the conditions in these documents were met and that there are sufficient evidence to proof this.
  • I had to ensure that more than 90 employees were trained to upload the documents to proof compliance with the required conditions.
  • Develop environmental training material for various levels (Operators, area managers, document controllers, internal SHERQ audit team)
  • I managed and facilitated the training for the uploading of the documentation during the Operational phase of an EA.
  • I collected historical proofs (some dating back as far as 1999) to ensure historical compliance.
  • I initiated the amendment process for all the conditions in these document were conditions were not clear or not relevant and
  • I applied for amendments for environmental licences Environmental authorisations and environmental management plans to ensure documents were updated with operational changes.
  • I contacted government to cancel all the EAs for projects that were cancelled or decommissioned.
  • I developed and implemented SAP EC policies and standards for Sasol to ensure and track compliance (e.g., tracking of compliance requirement, executing compliance inspections, conducting internal audits, arrange external audits, audit reports, findings, closure of findings)

  • In addition to the SAP EC system, I developed and implemented a program intended to assure that compliance was achieved, and proof of compliance was available (checklist, inspections audit program, procedures)
  • I established and oversee an annual environmental audit program, that consisted of internal as well as external environmental audit teams.
  • I had to Prepare of audit proposals, arrangement of audit, audit, follow up afterwards, ensure that audit feedback is communicated.
  • Compliance performance was reported internal (BI reporting) but also as per governmental requirement externally.
  • I had to confirm that all findings for environmental audits were closed with the correct and relevant proof.

  • I was responsible to assist the Business Units (BUs) with evaluation of their Environmental Risk Assessments (ERAs) and ensure that these ERAs are updated.
  • I used a bow tie approached to identify and develop preventative and remedial actions for all possible scenarios including operations and transport of feed and product.
  • I developed a program to ensure that all responsible plant owners systematically ensure that effective corrective and preventative actions were implemented to mitigate risks and non-compliance.
  • If incidents occurred, I was part of root cause analysis and the implementation of corrective actions.
  • I maintained records of all environmental documentation while ensuring compliance with regulations, international, national and ISO14000:2015 standards.
