I am currently working on a private health unit in Guernsey and have been responsible for training new staff members. I have undertaken training in phlebotomy and extra training online in mental health, stoma care and nutrition. Once I returned to the U.K from Guernsey, were I was working on a secure mental health unit. I was responsible for 14 patients along with my team. I supported the patients with personal care, counselling for drug related illnesses and supported them with meals. While in Guernsey I obtained my beach training (clinical observations). When I returned I worked as a health care assistant and activity coordinator at stavely house, during the pandemic helping residents with personal care and activity. Befor leaving for Guernsey I was working as a bank clinical support worker at the university hospital of Morecambe bay NHS trust. I have had the opportunity to work on many different wards from oncology, orthopaedics, general surgery, theatre and patient progression units. While working on the different units I have gained experience in end of life care, cancer care, wound care and fluid balances. I have also worked in nursing home where I have the responsibilities of ensuring that the residents are safe and the environment is safe and tidy. I have experience of dealing with challenges within the work place and with this I prioritise tasks and delegate if needed to the appropriate people. I have experience of dealing with emergencies situations this Includes working as a team to ensure the safety of everybody. I have also had experience of End of life care this involvedcaring for a resident who had days left to life and I provided the Appropriate care such as mouth care right through to the end of their life and giving the last wash. This also included comforting family and providing support for the family. I am currently under taking a bereavement awareness session to enhance my knowledge around this area. Within the nursing home I also experience of supporting and helping residents to maintain independence in everyday life skills such as personal care, meal times, and providing stimulation through activities. When providing person care for residents I always bear in mind the dignity and respect of the resident and maintain this in an appropriate way. I have recently completed a Dysphagia Training Day where I was able to understand more around the swallowing which can now help me during meal times as I can now understand how things work and the importance of guidelines given by SALT (Speech and Language Therapist).I have experience with working as part of a team and working alongside nurses to support residents' physical, psychological and the individual's needs to achieve a high standard of care. I am aware of positive therapeutic relationships and am able to form and maintain these appropriately. I am aware of infection control and bear this in mind when dealing with a resident. I use the appropriate equipment such as gloves, apron and having good hand hygiene. I am aware of my own limitations and will ask for help or support to the appropriate person if I feel I need it. I also have basic Makaton which helped me to communicate effectively within my last place of work as I have had experience of working with individuals with a Learning Disability. I have experience with working with individuals' who have Autism as well. These skills may help if ever dealing with a patient who has a Learning Disability of Autism within the ward. I am aware of the standards of hygiene needed to prevent infection and do this within my place of work by maintain a safe environment such as cluttered free, call bell at reach and drinks available. I also make sure bedrooms and communal areas are clean and tidy to prevent slips, trips, falls and infection. Whilst ensuring bedrooms are tidy and clean I am also maintaining the respect and dignity of the individual. I ensure that all waste is in the appropriate bins and empty theses when needed. I also ensure that commodes are clean and sterilised ready for next use. I am aware of the importance of documentation. I have experience of this such as documenting pressure relive and any food and fluid charts. I am aware of confidentiality I bear this in mind at all times. I feel that I maintain professionalism at all times within the work environment to promote excellent standards. I am aware of the process of appraisals, during these I am able to identify where I need to improve this could be identifying that I need additional training. I am aware of the importance of attending mandatory training and attended them when needed. I am very good at meeting deadlines and attending training days. I understand the importance of maintaining professional whilst attending academic component of the apprenticeship. I also have knowledge and skills such as using the use of computers and I have good communication written, verbal and nonverbal. I am also aware of reporting any incidents and how to appropriately deal with a complaint by a patient or their family.
