Having been involved is agriculture all my life, i have a connection that those that are not from a similar background find hard to understand.
When dealing with farmers, you have to talk in their language, understand what they are dealing with and converse in a way that shows you know what they are on about, that you understand the markets, the weather and what they are trying to achieve.
I also understand how the dealers have to provide the service expected , either through sales , but more importantly the backup and after sales service that is expected when thing do not go to plan.
i have the knowledge and experience to be able to see and understand issues from both sides and enjoy working with other to come to a decision that works for all.
Initially was asked by my brother to assist him is setting up a new depot for McVeighParker on a self employed basis. this involved picking stock, loading and unloading trucks, and deliveries to customers.
Progressed from there to key accounts manager doing farm sales/demo visits and building up connections for the business which had never had a presence north of the border until this point.
Progress from there to national transport/logistic manager because of my years of experience in transport and earlier this year passed my national /international transport managers certificate of competence.
For the past 5 years i have been responsible for all truck and forklift purchasing and overseeing that our delivery fleet/drivers are totally compliant with current laws and health and safety legislation.
Worked self employed delivering animal feed for this well know animal feed producer using one of their bulk blower trucks.
this was usually for 7-8 months during the winter months, the rest of the time i was still farming/contracting
After completing college, i worked on the family tenanted far along with my father and brother. to increase income , I started a small contracting business mainly based around ploughing, seeding ,spraying, silage making and baling.
As i have always loved and been interested in machinery, i did all my own maintenance and was always looking for ways to adapt and improve any machine i owned, even on occasions building my own if i could not find what i wanted from a manufacturer.
I have a passion for all things mechanical, and enjoy finding out how machines work and perform, basically
if it is a machine, i can operate it and fix it when it goes wrong
My other passion is driving I enjoy traveling and in my current job i can do around 30-35000 miles per year visiting out 8 depots nationwide
I also enjoy meeting and talking to other connected with agriculture either at shows or on farm, having been raised in farming, its hard to not have that connection
