Research, writing and publishing to deadlines: Produced articles across all of Reach’s online titles (Bristol Live, Manchester Evening News, Wales Online, Daily Record, Liverpool Echo, Birmingham Live, and more) for a range of national and local clients, including Thekla, City of Bristol College, Warburtons, Wookey Hole, Tequila Rose, NHS, police forces, South Gloucestershire and Stroud College, Haven, and Cancer Research.
Weekly column: Wrote and published a weekly column for Bristol Live that explored themes of singledom and stepping out of your comfort zone.
Marketing and press campaigns: Produced successful marketing and press campaigns to deadlines that fitted the client’s brief while also working within Reach's house style. Utilised in-depth knowledge of packages and services available and worked closely with sales reps to upsell and create campaigns that most suited the client’s aims and budget.
Working relationships: Built strong relationships with colleagues and managers to ensure a supportive and productive work atmosphere. I often volunteered to take on editor (manager) duties such as proofreading and legal checks when we were short staffed. Developed and retained strong external relationships with professionals from a wide range of sectors and focused on building mutually beneficial connections.
Client relationships: Managed clients’ expectations and ensured great customer care at all times. Resolved any issues quickly while liaising with sales reps to retain clients.
Working across departments: Worked closely with the videography and photography department to ensure a well-rounded communications strategy with high quality content.
Expert knowledge: Implemented knowledge of media law, IPSO, and ASA guidelines to ensure copy was consistently accurate. Developed official Reach plc disclaimers around legally-contentious topics to ensure all colleagues could create copy that was safe to publish and upheld journalism ethics.
Social media management and SEO: Created social media posts to establish high page views and initiated online conversations. Shaped headlines and lead text with SEO in mind to attract higher page views.
Data capture: Efficiently captured data on page views, competition entries, and social media engagement to measure success and alter future approaches to workload.
Time management: Managed editorial calendar to produce timely content. Worked to strict deadlines and managed own workload while picking up absent colleagues’ work at short notice.
Diversifying my skillset: Undertook a month-long secondment to the Consumer Unit where I sourced content and products to review and ran live blogs for upcoming music events.
