Since founding Waste Knot in 2016, as a response to the colossal amount of pre-farmgate, fresh produce wasted due to oversupply and aesthetics, I have become focussed on helping build a resilient food system; one which truly values people and nature by addressing factors such as social justice and environmental sustainability, respectively. Through positively disruptive and transformative processes, along with a focus on regenerative environments, we can start to imagine and formulate the fusion of human and natural systems. All with the aim of approaching different ways of supporting and developing regenerative ways of acting, being, thinking and doing from a holistic approach to interconnectedness between people and planet.
Nature-Based Farming restores land, grows food and creates habitats and ecosystem recovery for natural capital markets, including biodiversity net gain. We believe that farming is a service that should be measured by its contribution to society and the environment, as well as its yield per hectare.
Leading Wild is a pioneering initiative aiming to challenge the norm, question the protocol, disrupt and deviate, in order to help recalibrate us and the world in which we live. By bringing together communities which rarely collide, we are enabling collaboration which will provide more purposeful living by doing what we can to bring our natural world back to strength through shared motivation and drive.
Waste Knot rescues perfectly good fruit and vegetables from going to waste. Due to strict cosmetic standards, there is a large percentage of fresh produce which finds itself destined for landfill, anaerobic digestion, animal feed or is simply left to rot in the fields. We supply companies with boxes of the produce; enhancing their sustainability credentials, making sure the farmer is paid and most importantly, making sure that food that is usable and edible is put to good use. We developed our business model to focus on the benefits to our planet, the growing population and those growing the produce. The farms we work with use the most sustainable of growing methods (reservoirs, natural pesticides, good husbandry amongst others) so by supporting these farms and growers, we encourage the ways and means by which they produce the food and hope for them to lead the way on growing practices. In equal measure, the clients that we supply reflect our ethos and culture thereby supporting one another's actions and engagement in this area. When making any decision within the business, sustainability is key as we pride ourselves on providing a product that is sustainable from an environmental, moral, and social perspective.
