During my time at Marks & Spencer Café, I worked primarily as a barista in a fast-paced environment, preparing hot and cold drinks while ensuring excellent customer service. Alongside this, I supported food preparation, ran food to customers, replenished stock and merchandise, and maintained high standards of cleanliness and organisation throughout each shift. I regularly worked opening and closing shifts and followed all health and safety procedures. This role strengthened my ability to work quickly and accurately under pressure while remaining adaptable, organised, and reliable, with strong cash-handling experience.
During my time at Arcadia Garden Centre, I worked across multiple areas of the business, including front-of-house service, barista duties, and general floor operations. I was responsible for preparing drinks, serving customers, clearing tables, running food, and displaying stock, while consistently maintaining high standards of cleanliness and organisation. I also independently managed the Little Dinos soft play area during shifts, demonstrating responsibility and confidence when working alone. Throughout each shift, I followed health and safety procedures, supported stock control, and contributed to a smooth and efficient customer experience. This role strengthened my teamwork, adaptability, customer service skills, and ability to maintain high standards in a busy environment.
During my time at Book Aid, I worked as part of a team, sorting books into categories and applying quality standards for online sales and international shipping. This role required strong attention to detail and a consistent focus on quality control to ensure materials met required standards. I also carried out manual handling tasks, including loading and unloading pallets of books, which contributed to the efficient movement of stock and smooth day-to-day operations.
In my role as a Core Leader at Alive Church, I organise and lead events and activities, including planning and delivering larger events such as weekend trips. This position requires strong time management to balance leadership responsibilities alongside academic commitments. I contribute as part of a leadership team, supporting programme planning, managing finances, and ensuring all activities meet health and safety and safeguarding requirements. This experience has strengthened my teamwork, organisation, communication, and leadership skills, as well as my ability to take initiative and work responsibly.
I really enjoy coffee culture and love spending time in cafés with friends and family, which has given me a real appreciation for good service and a welcoming atmosphere. I also enjoy travelling and experiencing new cultures. I spent a gap year in South Africa, where I was born, exploring different communities and ways of life, which helped build my confidence and ability to connect with a wide range of people. I’m actively involved in my local church in Lincoln, where I am a leader within the students and young adults group, helping to organise and run events. It’s something I really enjoy and has helped me build strong teamwork and leadership skills.
