  • In 2022 I had the great opportunity to work in kings collage as a ward host
  • My main jobs were to prepare food in the kitchen for the various patients in the ward and to make sure the kitchen was kept clean
  • I often worked alongside nurses to prepare patients' food according to their medical needs and conditions
  • This job allowed me to work in a fast-paced environment.

  • I worked together with the molecular applied medicine team at CEU San Pablo
  • I assisted on a project that my supervisor was working on, the main project was, the study of IgM and IgG against different types of lipids using ELISA and understanding how the immune system works with covid-19, (how it protects against covid-19) and
  • And understanding why and how in some cases some patients tend to have a bad prognostic
  • Not only was I able to experience ELISA properly, as I remember doing it in my first year of University, but because of COVID-19 restrictions at the time, our lab experience was quite limited
  • My supervisor tried to include me in different activities to gain other lab skills
  • I took part in synthesizing liposomes and analyzed the samples using flow cytometry and fluorescent biomarkers to detect the production of B lymphocytes
  • I also immortalized the B lymphocytes using control samples, as in the lab, my blood was used
  • I was considered a control sample because I had never had COVID-19 before
  • In addition, beforehand, I assisted in the separation of mononuclear cells from peripherical cells
  • It was a unique experience in rats because I had never dissected a rat before
  • I was able to sometimes partake in the immortalization of MS cells
  • With this experience, I will take back home with me the different lab skills I learned along the way and also, with this professional training year, I also learned how important communication is in a team-like setting
  • I would also gladly ad that I improved my Spanish vocabulary as most of the methods and materials were in Spanish
  • The team I worked with often suggested to I explain or hand me English notes, but I refused, seeing it as an opportunity to learn differently, which I don't regret doing
  • Still, I think it allowed learning the language in an everyday setting and from a scientific and academic perspective, as everything was presented to me in Spanish
  • I would say that one of my weaknesses was avoiding doing things because of fear of making mistakes
  • Still, along the way, as I learned the importance of note-taking and organization, I realized that in the scientific setting, mistakes do happen, and they might not be due to human error.
