A student midwife due to qualify in September 2025 and seeking their first newly qualified midwife role and preceptorship programme. Focused on compassionate care and facilitating safe, positive experiences for women and families throughout the pregnancy continuum. Enjoys building deep and meaningful relationships with women and families to meet holistic needs and would greatly value the opportunity to provide continuity of care within a caseloading model.
· I provide care to women and their families under the direction/supervision of a midwife.
· I work with the service towards implementing national standards and improvements in maternity care e.g. continuity of carer.
· I act in a professional manner at all times.
· I contribute to and maintain accurate, clear and reliable records, including the documentation of any care given to mothers and babies.
· I am responsible for the safe keeping and maintenance of all equipment used. I acknowledge my personal and professional limitations, liaising with and referring to midwives and other relevant health professionals at all times.
· I provide physical and emotional support for mothers and babies as part of the team with the support of a midwife and report any adverse findings to the midwife.
· I have undertaken training to enable me to perform specific delegated clinical procedures – e.g. blood pressure, pulse, temperature, urine testing, weighing mothers and babies, obtaining venous blood samples and Guthrie tests, removal of cannulae and catheters, blood glucose testing, act as a runner in the obstetric theatre, assist the anaesthetist with siting of an epidural and neonatal observations.
· I assist women with self-care following their birth, including assistance with bathing/showering/toileting, basic wound care, and eating and drinking. As well as supporting with baby cares where needed/requested.
· I undertake the promotion and support of women breastfeeding, including practical assistance and hand expression of breast milk under the direction/supervision of the midwife in line with organisation policy and guidance.
· I provide practical support for mothers who choose to formula feed their babies, including demonstration, support whilst sterilising equipment and making up feeds and verbal and written support.
· I engage with women from vulnerable groups to offer support, information and encouragement with the birth experience and parenting to ensure they have full access to care, personalised to their needs/choices.
· I take part in health promotion activities for individual women and their families, including smoking cessation, healthy eating, alcohol, infections, SIDS, co-sleeping, antenatal and neonatal screening including BCG, and family planning.
· I participate in the teaching and support of work experience students, Midwifery students and support staff new to the maternity services.
· Additionally, I have undertaken specialised training to enable me to support neonatal nurses in caring for babies in the Transitional Care Unit, performing specific delegated clinical procedures such as setting up phototherapy, cot warmers, NG insertion, NG feeding and educating parents on NG feeding.
· I provide evidence-based breastfeeding support, education and reassurance to women and families both face to face and virtually.
· I am trained to recognise deviations from normal, such as blocked ducts, mastitis and ineffective feeding, and escalate this to other members of the MDT including General Practitioners, Midwives and Health Visitors.
· I uphold the professional standards required to support the Trust to retain their Gold Baby Friendly Initiative standard, participating in Baby Friendly Initiative audits and ensuring I remain compliant with all of Locala's mandatory volunteer training (includes Safeguarding, Health and Safety and Data security and Awareness).
· I advocate for the rights of women to breastfeed in public and have been involved in public health campaigns such as Welcome to Breastfeed Calderdale, to encourage local businesses to become more breastfeeding friendly to improve women's confidence to breastfeed in public spaces.
· I have created demonstration videos to support women with breastfeeding, such as how to recognise feeding cues and breastfeeding responsively.
· I achieved my CF1, CF6 and CF5 financial examinations, enabling me to provide advice across a number of regulated financial products, including residential mortgages, life assurance and income protection.
· I managed teams of up to 15 qualified mortgage advisers both face to face and virtually, providing coaching and support, enabling them to provide a high standard of financial advice and complete documentation to meet regulatory requirements.
· I fulfilled a quality assurance role, auditing and managing my team's performance in accordance with regulatory frameworks and undertaking root cause analysis. I was proactive in sharing any adverse findings with my wider management team and across multiple sites, driving widescale quality improvement.
· I was responsible for managing the professional behaviours and attendance of my team in accordance with HR frameworks.
· I was the Customer Experience champion at my site, responsible for delivering coaching to improve customer satisfaction and work with key stakeholders to understand customer complaints and resolve them.
· As an expert in my field, I was involved in policy writing and change implementation, supporting advisers through these transformations with training and support.
· Recognising the importance of staff wellbeing, I trained as Mental Health First Aider, communicating my role all teams on site. I provided a listening ear to any member of staff struggling with their mental health and signposted to sources of support.
