I started and ran my own company selling print, office furniture and stationery supplies to local businesses.
I sold the company after being elected to the County Council and taking on the role of Council Leader, which required full-time commitment.
I joined this small, family-run company in its infancy. I performed several roles, starting out as the company van driver, progressing to Sales Rep and finally as Sales Director.
In the latter role, I set sales targets for myself and a team of Sales Reps; provided advice to the owner on potential growth areas and as a member of the Board, contributed to decision-making and policy-making.
Awarded the Freedom of the Borough, by Blyth Valley Borough Council in its closing awards.
As a result I am now also a Freeman of Northumberland.
