My most recent job was that of an over the phone breakdown insurance sales person inside a call centre. This was a change from any other sales related work I had been involved in as the way we engaged with customers did not involve the face-to-face element I was accustomed to. This was a challenge at first but after a few days of making and receiving calls I was well adjusted to building rapport over the phone.
During my time in Lake Louise I worked in a small hotel in the main village with a split role of housekeeper/breakfast server. In my housekeeping role I was tasked with cleaning and preparing rooms in time for the next guests to check in, this helped me develop good time keeping skills as we were always under time pressure. Another element of this role was assisting with the general upkeep of various areas within the hotel premises. I also assisted in the breakfast room some mornings as a server, this involved front and back of house work, both greeting and serving guests as well as various kitchen work. I enjoyed this as it was constant interaction with our friendly guests and helped me further develop my social interaction skills.
This was my first experience regarding work, as soon as I was legally allowed to work I started working this job. My main role was advising customers on the sale of compost and other various aggregates. This role was the perfect introduction into the working world as it helped me develop great social interaction skills as well as a good insight into dealing with sales.
