Local Authority Specialist
Marshalls
04 2023 - 12 2024
During my career at Marshalls, I have worked closely with many Local Authorities in London and the Midlands. Helping to promote our range of products onto their public realm projects. Utilising our breadth of knowledge across the industry and leveraging on our brand in order to gain product specifications. Aligning our core values with theirs and in doing so displaying the value we can add to their public realm projects.
Drawing in different parts of Marshalls business i.e. pavements engineers, sustainability colleagues are two parts of our business are vital when dealing with Local Authorities. Where necessary demonstrating cost and carbon reductions without having an impact on the overall aesthetics on the products longevity. There is a drive to help build and deliver more sustainable public realm projects that have less of an impact on the environment. As a market leader my role would help educate them with new product developments (NPD) and promoting our approach to reporting our product data ie. environmental product declaration (EPD).
A large part of my role in dealing with Local Authorities is dealing / working alongside their term maintenance contractors and their appointed designers or engineers. These contracts can run between 3-10 years. My role is to be the link between the appointed contractor, landscape architects, engineers and the Local Authority. This allows me to implement any product design discussions made with the Local Authority with the contractor. By doing this, this allowed me to control the narrative in the Local Authority and into the market. The other benefit of this approach is that other private developments that are built within the area would possibly need to follow the design guides and products standards set by the Local Authority in which these developments would need to follow. Reviewing current programme of works and feeding this back into the business. This allowed us to plan to strategically and implement changes within our supply chain.
Another vital part in dealing with Local Authorities is again conducting quarry and works tours. This is such a benefit to them and the business as it allows them to buy into what Marshalls does as a leading brand.
