As a GPN I provide healthcare in primary care by:

  • Administering adult and child immunisations inline with the UK immunisation schedule - often requiring me to assess a patient's medical history and/or foreign immunisation schedules to determine what an individual is eligible for, this includes communication with the CHIS team to update records, confirm vaccines received outside of our practice, or confirming immunisation plans, as well as consulting with the Green Book to ensure treatment plans are appropriate and up to date.
  • Provide regular injectable medication, such as testosterone, B12, Depo, Inclisiran.
  • Managing chronic diseases such as diabetes, asthma, hypertension, heart failure, COPD through vital signs, urine, and blood monitoring, as well as patient education.
  • Complete regular monitoring of contraception, alongside UKMEC guidance and give patient education on alternate contraceptive options.
  • Established strong rapport with clients through regular communication.
  • Conducting patient assessments, including vital signs, medical history, and presenting symptoms and liaising with junior and senior doctors to ensure timely and effective patient care.
  • Carry out ECGs and ensure timely management of results.
  • Review blood results and arrange follow ups of abnormal blood-work.
  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date patient records using electronic health systems (EMIS).
  • Work under PGD's or PSDs and ensuring either documents are up to date and appropriate.
  • Organise and attend home visits for bed bound patients
  • Attending weekly practice meetings to stay up to date with patient care plans, significant events, and changes to practice policies and procedures
  • Making referrals to other healthcare providers with patient consent to support patients with ADL's and improving quality of life.
  • Coordinating with multi-disciplinary teams to ensure continuity of care
  • Participating in audits, infection control, and safeguarding procedures
  • Monitor stock levels for timely replenishment and ensure doctors rooms are stocked for clinics, as well as ensuring emergency drugs are available, stocked and in date at all times.
  • Ensure annual QOF/BQC targets are met


I have completed the General Practice Nurse Foundation Programme, as well as a 2-day course in Introduction to the Foundations of Vaccines and Immunisations, 1-Day course in Next steps C1 new to Travel, 2-Day course in Understanding blood results, and I am currently awaiting on confirmation of completion of my cervical smear certification (Cervical Sample Taker). In addition to these, I regularly attend the General Practice Nurse Forums for contemporary updates in primary care.

Neonatal Nurse

I worked as a band 5 neonatal nurse. During my time on NICU I:

  • Completed the NIP (introduction to neonates course) with the neonatal network
  • Was responsible for multiple special care, high dependency or intensive care babies in any given shift.
  • On a day to day basis I performed regular visual and physical observations, carrying out regular cleaning and pressure-relieving cares. I communicated and built rapports with parents and family members whilst maintaining confidentiality. I completed minute medicines calculations and administered medication, delivering oxygen via neopuff, nasal cannula, optiflow, bipap and cpap, carrying out wound care, followed feeding regimes, reviewed fluid balance calculations to administer IV fluids alongside feeds and medications in-line with strict fluid regimes, carried out regular thorough cleaning of cot spaces to maintain infection control to our vulnerable babies. I also communicated and worked alongside doctors, physiotherapist, and ANP's as part of the MDT to create and deliver contemporary care plans for optimum health outcomes.
  • Worked flexible hours, covering nights, weekends and bank holidays.
  • During my time on the NICU unit I also supported the COVID-19 vaccination programme in working bank shifts to vaccinate staff members across the RBH.

  • I worked on the Highbank unit which is a specialised hospital for traumatic brain injury patients who were either admitted for neurological testing or for rehabilitation
