Summary

II am deeply passionate about supporting children and young people, particularly those who face challenges early in life. As a mother of four grown children and my extensive career in the sector I’ve developed a strong foundation in nurturing, mentoring, and guiding individuals through different stages of development. The role of Senior Outreach Worker aligns closely with my values, as it focuses on building trust, offering emotional support, and creating stability for young people in need and their families. I’m motivated by the opportunity to make a meaningful difference — using my empathy, resilience, and communication skills to help children feel seen, safe, and supported. I’m especially drawn to the outreach aspect, as I believe in meeting young people and their families where they are, building relationships over time, and empowering them to grow with dignity and respect.

Skills

My experience as a Home-Start Manager was instrumental in developing strong communication, empathy, and problem-solving skills Working with families facing severe and complex needs required me to communicate clearly and sensitively, often in emotionally charged situations I regularly liaised with parents, children, volunteers, and professionals from social services, education, and healthcare, adapting my communication style to suit each audience Through home visits and support planning, I learned to listen actively and build trust with families who often felt unheard or overwhelmed, which significantly deepened my empathy and emotional intelligence No two families had the same challenges, so I frequently had to think creatively and respond calmly to emerging crises—whether that was finding emergency support, arranging financial support, or mediating between family members This role taught me how to assess needs holistically and find practical, person-focused solutions even in high-pressure situations

In addition, I successfully ran a children’s day nursery for four years, overseeing a team of 20 staff including catering and admin personnel This role required strategic planning, confident decision-making, and the ability to manage both people and resources effectively Balancing the demands of a large team while ensuring the highest standards of care and compliance taught me how to lead by example, stay organised under pressure, and support others in achieving shared goals

As a mother of four now-grown children, I’ve developed a wide range of transferable skills and personal qualities through years of hands-on experience I’ve mastered time management, organisation and multitasking, having balanced the demands of a busy household with multiple schedules and responsibilities Through guiding my children, I’ve mastered strong communication, conflict resolution, as well as the ability to adapt quickly to changing circumstances I bring empathy, patience, and emotional intelligence to everything I do, along with resilience and the ability to remain calm under pressure Managing finances, supporting individual growth, and leading by example have also helped me build leadership, teaching, and mentoring abilities These experiences have shaped me into a reliable, responsible, and resourceful individual with a deep understanding of people from all communities and the ability to thrive in dynamic environments
